Thanks everyone for the input. Beezer, seeing as you're practically next door there in PA, I would assume would have a very similar climate as I have here in Ohio. So I'll most likely look into the 15-50 you suggested. As far as oil break down, I'll most likely change oil at the beginning of every riding season. With work and everything I'll ride as often as I get the chance. My last bike I bought new in 2011. It only had 2902 miles on it when I got rid of it 3 days ago...so the oil will most likely just get too old before getting wore out...

Also I was looking through my owners manual, and did see the suggested oil weights and temperatures, but wanted to get some info from people who ride in a climate similar to mine...

I've seen mobile 1 sheer out of grade with less miles, but the big thing to look for is whether sheering to a lower weight is affecting the wear metals. You said it degrades quickly. With a little over 4000 miles on it, it doesn't look too bad.

I'm in Indiana and have never had any problem with rottella 15W40.

I can head East or West, it doesn't matter as long as it's on 2 wheels.

Welcome to the first day of Spring. Time to quit talking about oil and get out and ride!

To the OP, get that oil change done in 15 minutes and hit the road for an hour or two at least. Enjoy this fun bike!

I read this post late last night and I started to laugh thinking......this poor guy's in for it, as no one had replied yet. I thought, this is up Gene's alley so he will get in on this and look who gave the first reply!

I remember my first "Oil" post fondly!!

Yeah, I know how the forum world works lol. And guitarjim, we had snow/sleet here on the first day of spring...it was actually snowing the day I went and picked up the bike with the temp right around 34į...took it out for a quick spin this evening though. Definitely gonna change the oil. Sounds a little clunky when shifting, and the rear end has a little bit of a whine to it. So gear oil is gonna get changed along with the engine oil. With as low of miles as what it has I'm going to assume the oil in the rear end is factory...as for the engine oil, I really don't want to guess how old it is...
