Engine Ticking Volusia 800

So I've read a lot about these 800 engines ticking and was just wondering if this noise is normal?? (See link for video...
)
It doesn't get louder under load or reving either. It stays consistent in sound.

I do have to do an oil change on it (every 3000 miles) and it has also been 85-90 out for the last 2 weeks. Over the last 2 days of riding in 90 heat I noticed the ticking. Maybe I just never noticed it before?

Any insight as to the "normalcy" of the ticking would be great! I know it had the valves checked by the 1st owner at the scheduled time but I have had it since it had 8,600 miles on it and it just turned 14,000 miles. I believe I should be checking them at 15,000? I plan on doing it towards the end of the riding season.

Thanks!

The audio sounds like an engine that needs a valve clearance adjustment. The service interval is every 7500 miles, however that is not a hard and fast rule. If you think your valve clearance might be out of tolerance, by all means get in there and take a look. You are relatively close to the service interval anyway, so it won't hurt anything to get it back onto the recommended schedule.

Thank you!
I will definitely be doing the adjustment soon. Just wasn't sure if that was a normal sound or not. Going to change the oil this weekend and I will do the valves the following weekend.

Sounds fairly normal.
A slightly loose adjustment is better than overly tight rockers/valves.

Thanks! That's what I initially thought too but wasn't sure. Thankfully it isn't as loud as others I've heard. Like scrapiron said, I am close to the scheduled adjustment. Better to be safe than sorry.

I listened to your video as well and i think that it sounds just fine. I had my valves checked by my dealer about 3000 km ago and i cannot tell the difference between your bike and mine. Matter of fact to my ears your bike sounds very good. Take care and enjoy.

Thank you! I just did an oil change today and the sound actually got a little quieter. Still, I'm going to check the valves. Glad to hear that they sound similar. Makes me feel a little better about it.
