We are going to do something different with the 2019 OctoVRfest.

1) We are joining the AGT gang who are also holding it on Sept 21-28 2019 @ the Comfort Inn Sylva NC, (Blue Ridge area). Hotel info is below.

Website: https://www.choicehotels.com/north-carolina/sylva/comfort-inn-hotels/nc732?brand=CI
Contact: Anna Thomas, 1-828-477-4950, sylvasales@ipdhospitality.com
Rates: $99, single king or double queen. No pets.
Rate is specific for AGT2019 group.

2) I'm leading a multi-day ride to the rally. I'll post at the different thread, but we will meet in Front Royal, Va on Saturday, Sept 21.
Then on Sunday, Sept 22, ride the entire Skyline Drive (105 miles) and Blue Ridge Parkway (469 miles) to the AGT/OctoVRfest rally. We should arrive at the Comfort Inn on Tuesday, Sept 24.

3) After we arrive, you will have the leisure to ride the best roads east of the Mississippi. You can ride Tail of the Dragon, Maggie Valley is your oyster...take it and enjoy it!!!! I plan to lead a ride on Cherohala Hwy, which overlooks the Smokey Mountains.

Plan this rally anyway you like it!!!
- Come anytime you want and leave anytime you want during that week.
- Trailer your bike there.
- You can even drive there and rent a bike.....
- or just drive to have a ball with friends (who cares if you don't bring your bike).

I have other ideas...but what fun would it be if I told you >:)>:)>:)>:)

So book now and don't wait for the back up hotel...cause you are on your own to find one.

plan on attending but more than likely won't be for the whole week...probably get there Thursday. Haven't decided if I'm going to spend some time with my daughter before or after. Still...might just show up at Front Royal on Saturday to join the gang...we'll see.

sounds like a nightmare...I'm guessing they'll be enough to give the northeast some riding credibility...its not that they don't want to be there...its just too far for most requiring too much time off from work that many can't get...now if they worked for the post office.....they could go to a rally wherever whenever...was a nice fringe benefit now that I think of it. Anyhow...I'll be there.

Dennis hit the nail on the head. Just not enough vacation time. I take a week at Xmas, a week in February for Mexico, a week for the family in July, and a few days for Yankee Rally. I only get 4 weeks and I'm not willing to give up any of the others, so we only do OctoVRfest when it's close enough to get to on a Friday afternoon after work.

Whiskey, it's at least a 12 hr ride from here. We'll split it in two days. (and we may be bringing reinforcements :D )
Lu is an awesome person. Just be forewarned of the initiations he makes you go thru :D :D

If it happens, I'm in. I will not be taking the skyline down but would be willing to meet at the parkway in Mt Airy.

Kim and I are going to approach her brother and his girlfriend about this. They live in the Denver area, and have expressed interest in trailering their bike out to Ohio and riding south to the Smokies. We went out west this summer and toured Colorado and Utah with them. It was the most time Kim has spent with her brother in decades. If we can get together, would likely meet group in Front Royal for trip down - Dan

Just booked a room for 4, Mon-Fri, Sept. 23-27, headed back north Sat. morning. Sounds like it's a go with my brother in law and his girlfriend. Going to show them a sample of southeast Ohio and West Virginia on the first day. New River Gorge, Back of the Dragon (Tazewell-Marion), and on to Freeborne's in Laurel Springs, NC on the second day. Hop on the BRP, milepost 248, and head down to Sylva, NC, arriving Monday evening. Lu, may see your group on the road somewhere, but it appears we will be a day in front of you - Dan

Guys, I got a very busy work schedule, my plan is to attend the rally for only two full days. One full day to ride down, 2 days there, then one full day to ride back home.

Therefore, I can’t lead the multi day ride on the Skyline Drive and BRP. Don’t let me mess up your plans, feel free volunteer, and/or ride it yourself. I’ll meet you there.

Lu,

I have some ideas for some rides. I'll be in touch with you via an email.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Have had a rough 20 months (health wise), but it's time to get back in the saddle.

I hope to bring a few of my DE riding friends.

Hope a lot of VR riders are going to make this ride.

Slainte.

Sad to say, but Dave & I have to cancel :(
His mom bought him tickets to his favorite band that's coming to town, and his brother's coming down to go with him. We will meet back up with you guys someday.
Other news, we leave the first week in Oct to ride to New Mexico :)

I'm toying with putting together a more "local" OctoVRfest in the traditional northeast. Low-key. I'll do the basic necessities--pick the location and hotel and draw up some rides--and leave all the extras (food, firepit, etc.) to others.

We'll see if I can find the time. No guarantees. But I'll give it a shot. We'll start a new thread if I can get it going.

hope you get a better turnout than we got at Cooperstown last year...good idea tho...not everyone can do the time it takes to attend the Maggie rally...when you thinking? Sorry for the hijack...probably should start another thread...
