OctVRFest started in October...then somewhere along the way it went to sept...shame...best colors to ride in are in October. I'm guessing the weather played into the decision to move it to sept but if we are moving this rally south, the weather in October should still be decent. Why not bring it back to October?

C'mon you Noreasters.

The world is not flat and you won't fall off the edge if you ride west farther than 100 miles from home.

Take 2 or 3 days riding to where-ever, split-up the mileage, enjoy the ride and event(s).

Sometimes I think that you folks want OFest so far east, that you would rent a barge 10 miles from shore out in the Atlantic.

Don't you remember that first one in Cooperstown? We froze our a$$es off! Started both days below freezing.

Down south won't be a problem, though.

It's also worth noting that the genuine (German) Oktoberfest is actually held in September.

Having just been to Maggie Valley in June, I'll say that the riding is great, it is a bit of haul down there from the general NE region (meaning you probably have to commit to more than Thurs-Sun if you want a few days of riding at the destination and hanging out with the crew, which may be an issue for some), and Maggie itself caters to motorcycles. They'll do what you want. Not as many restaurants along the strip as I would have expected. And while everything may look close on a map, it's kind of deceiving. From Maggie, its probably at least an hour to the Cherohala Skyway, 75 minutes to the Dragon, 30 minutes to the Rattler, etc.

For those coming from the Northeast, it would be a shame to go down there (or go back) by any road other than the Blue Ridge/Skyline, but that adds more to the amount of time you'd need to set aside for the weekend, making it closer to a week!

I'm certainly no wuss when it comes to riding long distances. But carving out more than a 4-day weekend for VR events is a bit difficult for me.

Believe it or not, Lake George, NY, is just over two hours north west of me; twice the 100 miles you claim we won't travel. Unfortunately, though, I don't get enough vacation time to allow a trip longer than that. I am not afraid of riding great distances - I did complete an Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1,000, after all. However, I can't go without pay for the privilege.
