Posting a ride or rally? Read me first!
So...you are posting a ride or rally? Here are some tips to getting people there, keeping the forum clean and happy:
1- POST THE DATE AND LOCATION IN THE TITLE!
Riders and readers here have a hard time spotting rides in their area when the title only states "Ride to the Gorge". What gorge? When??
Help people out with a descriptive title such as "Ride to the Gorge, East Oregon, Oct. 23-26"
2- ONCE YOU POST THE RIDE, MAKE 2 MORE POSTS MARKED "RESERVED".
By reserving the first two posts (or more) in a thread, you, the original poster, are giving yourself a few posts on the 1st page that can be updated later for things such as event details, travel/sleep arrangements, tshirt orders, list of attendees, etc.
3- UPDATE YOUR DETAILS ON THE 1ST PAGE!
Many threads, especially for large rallies, can easily grow to 20 or 30 pages or more before the event. If you are making plans for meeting places, rides, or other significant events, make sure to update the first page. That is where many readers, especially new readers to the thread, will look for info. It's hard to order a tshirt when the info is buried on page 23.
4- KEEP YOUR RIDE OR RALLY TO ONE (1) THREAD.
There is no need to have one thread to poll for a location, one thread to take tshirt orders, one thread asking for a list of attendees, another for photos after the event...all of that can be made in a single thread, and is very easily done if you make the 'reserved posts' mentioned in tip #2. Readers get frustrated having to read all the unnecessary posts in the ride forum, and keeping it consolidated to a single thread keeps it clean...multiple threads on a ride may be merged and consolidated at the staffs discretion.
