Amtrak autotrain/auto train

Anybody on here ever take their bike on the autotrain. Leaving Lorton VA and arriving in Orlando FL?
I'm thinking of doing a trip next spring nd using the auto train on the way down.
Current pricing is $470 or so two bikes and two people coach, dinner and continental breakfast included.
Start in Schenectady, NY and arrive a few days later in the Florida Keys. Then drive the entire 1780 miles back home over the course of a week or week and a half.
Probably using camping when not sleeping on the train. Late May early June trip.

You gonna trust them to put in on and off the train?

I have taken the train several times years back.

I'de find out how they handle bikes.

Suggestions too.

DON'T get a seat anywhere neat the toilet. The Old foggies w/ weak bladders will keep you up ALL night along w/ everybody else.

DON'T sit in a car w/ more than 2 kids below the age of 9. You WILL NOT get any rest from the crying, screamming, running , kids inablity at that age to talk softly and lack of parental control.

When it is dinner time don't got right off the bat. This avoids the cattle rush. Unless you get there real early and be at the head of the line.

Just one question.
Riding from Key West to NY will be up hill all the way (bad on mpg).
Shouldn't you ride the bikes south then take the train back?
That way you can coast all the way to Fl and save alot of gas.

Just kidding, sounds like a great trip. I've never been to Key West but look forward to riding the bike down there someday.

Wishing you a safe and happy trip.
Rodie.

Special racks are used to secure motorcycles. The motorcycles are held in place with wheel locks, side straps, stabilizing bars and an optional padded clamp for the seat. Motorcycles with standard and factory-approved farings and saddlebags are carried on the Auto Train, but custom motorcycles, motorcycles with sidecars and chopped motorcycles cannot be accommodated. You will be asked to help position and secure your motorcycle on the flatbed carrier before the train departs, and to assist in taking your bike off the carrier when you arrive at your destination. You can expect a number of motorcycles around the time of the Daytona rally.

↑↑ that's cool ... I was gonna say- insist that you be allowed to secure your own bike or watch them as they secure it. but looks like they already thought of that...

sounds like a cool trip... let me know when your in the F'burg area (if you come up 95 or Rt. 1) got a back yard you can camp for the night in ... or just meet up & ride part of the way with you, depending on my schedule & when/if your in this area depending on if we are still here(might be selling the house, dunno yet.)

Electricjaws did that trip this past spring - pm him - he has pics of them loading the bike and can let you know more about the experience. He was pretty happy with it overall as I recall.
