Gas Tank Heat Shield?

I've noticed that newer C50 gas tanks have reflective heat shield material underneath the tank (see picture 1). My 2008 doesn't have it. What benefits are in adding heat shields underneaths gas tanks and why older bikes were sold without one?

Thanks!

To get you to buy either:

1) a new bike

2) a heat shield

This thought did cross my mind )) I take it there is no real reason to have a heat shield added to my gas tank...

Psyc0 took my tank off and adjusted my valves here in Pa. on his way from Buffalo to his beautiful home in Florida.

Well, I'll be. Suzuki changed the tank design again. I wonder when that was put in place? Probably their "comeback year" in 2012.

As for the foil? It probably reflects a little heat which keeps the fuel 2* cooler. I wouldn't worry about retrofitting your bike.

Tanks in the picture are 2008 and 2011.

I read a little about this: gas tank shields are somewhat necessary when gas tank is made of materials other than metal, and makes a bit of a difference for high performance engines due to cooler fuel. For C50, probably no feasible performance difference.

I'm pretty sure my 2009 C-50 has the heat shield.
Given that, which oil should I use?

Well, the picture says 2016, but what's 5 years among friends??

Good to know about the change in tank design though. VL800 tanks 01-04 will only fit those years, 05-10(?) will only fit those years and (unknown)-present will only fit those years...

Lol, my bad: this is what happens when you take a train instead of riding your motorcycle The eBay listing says 2011-2016: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2016-11-16-...e419%7Ciid%3A1
