If there's already a thread like this and I missed it, apologies. I have read about other members' tire experiences, but they are scattered all about. I think it would be a good idea to gather comparison information in one place. (I'm an engineer; we like data. Opinions are fine, but I'm also looking for data.)
My bike had Shinko tires on it when I got it, so I decided to stick with them for now. The rear was well worn, so I replaced it right away. I replaced the front tire at just over 3000 miles after I got the bike.
The rear tire new had 11/32 tread depth. I just replaced it again at just under 6000 miles with 3/32 tread depth left. I could have gotten a few more miles out of it, but I have a long trip planned and the tire would not have lasted. I paid $85.88 plus tax at Amazon. The tire ships from Chaparral Motorsports. Ordering from them directly the price of the tire was the same but shipping was over $20 as I recall. Amazon was free. I got the tire mounted and balanced at my local shop for $40, after I had removed the rear wheel.
Front tire was $67.88. Also pulled the wheel and went to my local shop for mounting and balancing.
Since I've only run the same tires on the bike, I don't have much to compare regarding handling, although others have said that they are sticky.
I'd be interested in hearing other experiences with Shinko and all brands - cost including mounting and balancing, handling, durability, where did you buy. At what tread depth do you replace your tires?
Thanks in advance.
