AMA's 15 Best Roads in America

The AMA magazine that arrived in my mailbox today lists the 15 best motorcycle roads in the US, chosen by readers from a ballot of about 100 roads. There's a bit more detail on each in the magazine, but the top 15--counting down to number 1--are:

15. WA Route 129 and OR Route 3, Clarkston WA to Enterprise OR
14. OH Route 170, Calcutta to Poland
13. CA Route 58, McKittrick to Santa Margarita
12. US Route 33, Harrisonburg VA to Seneca Rocks WV
11. Natchez Trace, from Natchez MS to Nashville TN
10. Angeles Crest Hwy, CA Route 2
9. US Route 12, Lolo Pass ID and MT
8. CA Route 36
7. Cherohala Skyway, NC and TN
6. Going to the Sun Road, Glacier National Park, MT
5. CA Highway 1, Pacific Coast Highway
4. Highway 550, Ouray to Durango CO
3. US 129, The Tail of the Dragon
2. Blue Ridge Parkway, NC
1. Beartooth Highway, MT and WY

Can't say I've done any on a bike yet. (Driven on 2, I think.) I guess I now have something to strive for.

'02 Volusia --> '03 VStrom 1000 --> '05 R1200GS, '09 XR1200 --> '15 R1200GS

I've ridden a lot of them and they are spot on. SPeed limits are a bit low on some of them but some of these roads are so great to tide on a bike you forget you're going so slow.

I agree just not in that order

All are beautiful rides,
just some ie (Bear Tooth/550/GTSR) don't take your eyes off the road
for a second or .......... its a looooong way down

Its about the ride, not the party after!

I have driven 5 and rode on 3 and 7. Now I have a good source to start a bucket list. Thanks for posting this.

I did the PCH in California in a red mustang convertible - kewl - but I'd love to do it on a bike. That's on my list.

I got a kick out of #14, from 'Calcutta to Poland'. Now that's a LONG road!

People talk about the triple nickel a lot in Ohio. 170 is an awesome, underrated, meg aawesome run. Sneaky Twisties with uncertain elevation changes. A surprise a minute.

I have to disagree with those California choices. Maybe Route 36 might be OK, but I can think of much better Roads. I think that most of those votes came from LA.
