A couple of weeks ago during a poker run in eastern Utah on I-70 (speed limit 80 mph) with a mass gaggle of Harleys I hit 100 mph for a little bit trying to keep up with them. Speedo is pretty accurate and I have stock tire sizes. Also have a VS1400 rear drive and a windshield and it was a fairly windy that day. Had some throttle left as well. So I think 110 with a DJ or 1400 drive is probably a reasonable estimate.

Harleys will do over a hundred all day long. And I can tell you under the best circumstances a C50 will have a hard time hanging with a group of Harleys. I have been on the C50 and the Harley. The guy in the C50 is struggling and the guys on the Harleys are not aware they have lost the C50 guys. Been there, done that numerous times.

As the guy who used to struggle to keep up with the Harleys while on my C50, I can confirm this is the truth.... I spent most of my time with the throttle pegged, the engine screaming for its life and watching the tail lights of the rest of the group disappear far ahead.

The fastest I've ever had 'er up to was about 85 - probably not much left after that...

Where is this 100mph speed limit located? The c50 will do the speed limit just about everywhere. With the DJ mod drive, it can do higher speed limits with comfort (after switching out the seat...). Suzuki does make motorcycles that will leave the HDs behind (far behind) if that is your desire; it just isn't the c50.

I found it to be completely underpowered riding on the Interstate in Florida. Traffic moves at around 80MPH. There is nothing left in throttle to allow you to safely maneuver.

I said the c50 could do the limits. It can. Does it have power to go from 80 to 100 to get out of trouble (or put you into more trouble)? Nope, it doesn't. I also had it pegged with full throttle and could barely go 75mph when faced with a 40+mph headwind. The c50 is a lot of fun to ride around town.

As always, figure out what you want to get out of your motorcycle and buy accordingly - there is give and take in all vehicles. The c50 met my initial needs very well.

It met mine too. I wanted to figure out if I actually wanted to ride a motorcycle without spending Harley money. The answer was yes so I went and bought the Harley.

The speed limit on the interstates in many places is 70 mph and in some states is 80. Traffic routinely flows 5 to 15 mph over that posted speed limit depending on the area.

The C50 is not designed or intended to ride at those speeds, especially for a long time. Yes, it can do a true 80 mph, but that is with the throttle pegged and no power left to pass. You in effect, become a moving speed bump for faster vehicles... Which isn't a whole lot of fun.

It took me trying to ride with bikes that could easily keep up with traffic, especially in a group to finally understand that. When everyone else can easily accelerate from 60-100 in a matter of seconds and your bike's acceleration at that speed is measured in calendar days, it really tells you something...

I like a more "relaxed" speed than some are suggesting. The C50 was not up to pulling western US hills loaded with luggage so I opted for the "more is better" and went with a 1500 Vulcan. After many years and miles the "more is better" became too much weight. I now ride a much lighter bike with more HP than either the C50 or the Vulcan. More HP and less weight makes for a "faster" bike but I still like a more relaxed speed than some are suggesting. It will go from 0 to 100 faster than stink and that's fun once in a while but 60 is good for seeing and smelling the country side.

Ride with folks who are a bit more sensible....................

With a few minor mods, I have had my Volusia up to 140 MPH on a stretch of Runway in Robbins Ga where they used to land SR-71s... it was night, though and my clocker, my girlfriend, moved back to Canada to continue her career in pornography.

I have beaten Valentino Rossi commemorative R1s in drag races and once out ran a Lamborghini Gallardo through a set of cones with my Volusia... unfortunately, it killed me, where I immediately was sent to Hell where the devil rode a Harley Davidson that ran at 100 all day. And the only motorcycle shops would only sell you bikes if you paid to have magic cams installed.

I did get better.
