Final drive for dj drive mod

I have a vs1400 drive sitting around I need to get rid of. Was going to do the mod on my bike but if everything works out I’m planning on buying a c90 so I have no use for this drive. $100 plus shipping costs

Wow......that's cheap.. That should go fast.

I can head East or West, it doesn't matter as long as it's on 2 wheels.

i am interested in buying the final drive mod you have for sale if i will fit my 2009 C50 Boulevard Special Edition...do you also have the instructions on how to do it

It will not fit on your bike without modification. There are three routes you can take, all require machine tools.

1: cut the shaft in half, remove 5/16" of material. Sleeve, weld and lathe the shaft for balance (original DJ mod).
2: cut the shoulder on the input side off the shaft back 5/16".
3: Remove the drive coupler and cut 5/16" off of the input side of the coupler.

Once the machining is done, you then have to elongate the holes in the frame to accommodate the larger bolts. The fake swing arm then needs to be modified or discarded as it will not fit the new drive.

Overall, it is a worthwhile modification but it is not without drawbacks. The decreased gear ratio will cost you some power which you will feel if heavily loaded or riding up hill. You will also require more clutch than before to get going. It will not make the bike faster nor will it allow you to "keep up with bigger bikes" on the highway. It will reduce engine vibration at a given speed and make the ride more comfortable.

i was under the impression that the final drive mods were of the "plug-n-play" type...undo my old rear gears and drive shaft and plug in the "modified parts"...sort of a turn key operation...i must have misunderstood the forums about the gear change as it seemed it was like changing an air filter....take the old one out and throw it away...put the new filter in and drive away...so am i on the same page as everyone else now...there is no such thing as a "plug-n-play" gear modification available????

You can locate Cory on this forum.
He will sell you a plug and play final drive.
Unbolt your old one, do some minor filing on the mounting holes on your bike, bolt in the new one, go ride your bike and smile.

Negative.

There is no "plug and play" option unless you purchase an already modified drive or drive coupling for your bike. If you try to fit the unmodified drive into your bike, it will cause the drivetrain to bind up and well cause the bevel gear inside to self destruct.

If you buy the drive, you will either have to machine it yourself, or pay someone to machine it for you. Hence why the modified drives carry a price tag of $500 or more.

how would i locate Cory for a plug-n-play rear drive mod...i am really bad at the computer...any help will be greatly appreciated
