quiet weekend...met a couple of VOL guys for lunch in Mass saturday...brought the wife…
good to have her on the back...miss not having her with me...was really looking forward to making up for the past couple riding seasons where riding took a back seat to things that needed to get done around here...unfortunately for her, family BS is cutting into her riding time this year...is what it is…
lunch was good...new place…service a bit slow...should have read the writing on the wall on the way there when we came around a turn and traffic was backed up...had the feeling it wasn’t an accident and as we crept along we saw what the cause was…
and no turtle crossing signs to boot either…fwiw...he was one big SOB.....from the size of that thing..this turtle has either
a... been very lucky
b... made a pact with the devil
c... done something at some point in his life to merit some protection from THE MAN UPSTAIRS preventing him from becoming ingredients in some organic soup.
I’ll go with A…
riding on, I started thinking about the time back in the mid 90’s when I first moved into my present house...out in the country...riding in my car on some back road near my house I came across a similar scene...huge, no make that enormous, turtle crossing the road...realizing the likelihood this creatures chances of making it across were less than 10% ...figured I’d help it out...you know...gently pick it up and bring it over to where it would be safe...I’m that kind of guy... so I pull over, start to get out of the car... when this guy in a pickup stops,
guy...hey...can I ask what you plan on doing there
me...this poor little guy will never make it w/o some help
guy...don’t think so.. huh...how many fingers you got?
guy...you won’t have that many when you’re done
guy..gotta love these city people who move out here...dumb as sh^t...have a nice day.
True story...another feather in my cap in achieving
status...yes...things that make you go hmmmmmmm…
and I don't know which took longer...him getting from one side of the road to the other side...or how long it took us to finally get our lunch...think the turtle was quicker.
rain was somewhere in the forecast for the day and as we avoided it somehow on the way there, we weren’t so lucky on the way home...luckily we were w/in 20 minutes of the homestead when the water came so tip of the hat to the BIG GUY UP THERE
for throwing us a bone…
overall..good day...good ride...good lunch w/ good company...shame I had to leave for work but not complaining...did get to ride and did get to spend some time w/the wife.
