Smile Sturgis Saga 2010

I wasn't sure whether to post here or General..anyway two friends and I made the Sturgis rally this year...but that's not really the story. On August 10th we went to Devil's Tower...beautiful ride on Highway 34 and 24. When we got tothe Tower I discovered that my saddlebags had fallen off somewhere between Sturgis and Devils Tower. I was riding last in my group and it was early in the A M so not many other riders were out. Any way we backtracked all the way but found nothing.

I figured it was a lost cause but I wasn't going to let that spoil my good time. So to make a long story even longer, today I was doodling on the computer and did a Google search on 'lost saddlebags sturgis'. I got a hit on another forum. Someone had found saddlebags on highway 34 with a VL800 owners manual in the bag but no other identifying objects. They were turned in to the BElle Fourche P.D. on 8/19/2010. Figuring I had nothing to lose I located their phone number and called them about an hour ago and believe it or not they still had the bags with the contents intact. They of course asked me what was in them and after I ticked off the first 5 items they were convinced I was the rightful owner. We are making arrangements to have the items sent by mail. I'd love to pick them up on person but 1500 miles each way is more than I can want to take on at this point. Is that crazy or what?

With all that happened I still had a great time. I had been to Sturgis back in 1976 (not during the rally however). So this was really different. I will say if I go back it will probably not be during the rally. The riding in and around the Black Hills is phenomenal if you like beautiful scenery at every bend, neat little towns(Deadwood, Hulett) and great roads. I hope to get out there again soon....I'm not getting any younger.

Have you ever been to Belle Fourche? Of course they hung onto it, they got absolutly nothing else to do in Belle Fourche. They probably took turns taking it home and caring for it. BTW if you were on I90 25mi west of Sioux Falls you rode right past my house.

When I want to read a really good Harley thread, I just turn to VolusiaRiders.com

That's really cool!

We are thinking of going there in June of 2011...

Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated!

I don't want to go during the rally.... I just wanna ride and see the sights!

Hahaha, yeah I've been to Belle Fourche. I think they took turns. One officer would roll up the sidewalks, the other would take the bags home. They'd switch duties on odd numbered days.
