Fake left swingarm not needed?

So after reading the DJ Drive threads I see that what everyone here calls the "fake swingarm" and what the manual calls the "left swingarm cover", it seems that it's not actually necessary. Now, at some point in the future when money allows, I will likely get the DJ Drive, but in the meantime, should I even bother bolting this thing back on? Does it serve a purpose with the original shaft drive, or is it all decoration?

Yeah, it's like tonsils or an appendix.

It's all about the look! The early version of it was Plastic! The part is strictly aesthetics and not structural.

All decoration. I have installed many DJ drives for people. Some want it back on, others leave it off. You have to grind away a good portion on the back to make it fit back on with a DJ drive.
