What is the max wattage for driving fog lites? Without draining battery?? I'm gonna try to make a set for my bike. Or where is the best place for clamp on lites for crash bar.
I don't know the "best " clamp on lights. I went away from that thought after getting input from within this thread, Take the time to start at the beginning. There is a lot of helpful tip from others to help you with you choice as they did mine.
120 Watts max, but I would stay below this max, 100-110w, 2-55w bulbs, is plenty fine. mine are 35w each and they are just fine. Plus down the road it can be replaced with brighter leds with less power usage. I used 16 gauge wire on all my accessory circuits. I took and old 16Gauge outdoor extension cord and have been cutting off of it as needed. Even a new one is good to go . That being said, I don't recommend old wiring, use your best judgment. look below at the info given to me during this thread.
Aux connector is on a 10 AMP fused circuit. Simply stated:
I(A) = P(W) / V(V)
P = I x V
P = 10 x 12 = 120 Watts
That being said, you need to look at the gauge of the wire in the harness. For 10 AMPs, lengths up to 6 feet will be OK with 16 gauge wire. I don't know what gauge wire is in the harness. If in doubt, use a relay with a lower gauge (thicker) wire and use the accessory socket to trigger the relay.
