|
|
Hey all.
I'm putting on Johns forward controls and adding a 3" lowering kit tomorrow. I never really thought about it until I read a little in here about kickstand height. Is my bike's kickstand still gonna work, or will it leave my bike sitting too upright? Is there a mod out there for this? I thought I seen a post regarding it earlier but can't find it now.
I'm gonna go ahead with my plans tomorrow and hope for the best, but if anyone out there has heard of something, let me know.
Thanks,

There is alittle square stop that your kickstand rests against, grind the square off flush and that will allow the stand to rest just enough forward that it won't be an issue anymore _________________ VR Member #488

LOL.....Thanks for the tip.
Maybe I should get out there and have a look. Sounds simple enough to work.
Thanks

Kulprit hit it right on the head, takes just a few minutes and solves the problem 100%! There have been plenty of us that have had our side stands fold up while idling in neutral, glad you can learn from our lessons! _________________

Mine almost went over the summer I got it while cleaning, wasn't even running at the time, did that mod and never had that happen again _________________ VR Member #488

So what does the stand rest against after you grind off the square stop? _________________ '05 C50 (2006 - 2009)

Lowered my bike today, and installed forward controls. So far.....the kick stand doesn't look like an issue. I'll keep an eye on it for a few days, but will probably grind off the notch anyways......I think I'm running a mod fever. LOL
thanks for the tips guys......

A kickstand drop will cost you hundreds of dollars (tank, turn signals, paint.....) Grinding the nub is completely safe and doesn't cost a dime. _________________ -Metal monsters that let us breathe. Let us smell. Keep us from being numb. - Zookoff

Barry | Barry, if you take one piece of advice from the VR, take this one. Do the kickstand mod. I'm not even going to begin to try and recall the members over the years who've said, "the kick stand doesn't look like an issue" only to come post a month, two, or six later with their tail between their legs and admitting that their bike fell over. Then they all say the same thing, "I wish I would've....." And of course, this is only the people who admit it!

Seems like I need that extra 5 degrees after lowering 2". I'll give it a shot with my dremel this weekend. _________________ '05 C50 (2006 - 2009)

The last one I did with a dremel I used a cutting wheel to cut the stop in 1/2 then cut the 2 pieces off seperately. Then I cleaned it up with a grinding wheel and hit it with a little black paint. Put the bike on a lift or have someone hold it off the kickstand while you do it. _________________ -Metal monsters that let us breathe. Let us smell. Keep us from being numb. - Zookoff
