![]() 'I've been everywhere, man; I've been everywhere, man; across the deserts bare, man; I've breathed the mountain air, man; of travel I've had my share, man; I've been everywhere.' —Johnny Cash Even for Johnny Cash, it would be a mighty feat to ride America's 3.9 million miles of highways, byways, avenues and alleys to get, as the song says, "everywhere." Although sometimes it may feel like we've traveled every road worth a ride, the biker DNA bubbling in our blood tells us there is, somewhere, the spectacular road not taken. Not that we haven't tried to ride everywhere. Aside from a few heated water-cooler debates, varying levels of certifiable psychosis, polite differences of opinion and immeasurable variables of riding style, the staff at Motorcycle.com carefully considered its 300 or so years of collective biking experience and named these the Top 10 touring roads in the U.S., although no peaceable agreement could be made as to order, except for the fistfight averting alphabetical. Print this, stuff it in your leather shirt, get off the couch and on your bike, and find some adventure. More: Top 10 Best Motorcycling Touring Roads on Motorcycle.com |

It's not often somebody gets it right. This is right. They missed WV route 19, but I can live with that.
I rode the Natchez Trace Parkway, both up and down on my way to Louisiana recently. This road was such an unbelievable treat.

AMA's 15 Best Roads in America
Discussion March of this year. But the best motorcycle road is the one you are riding on. These only offer more curves, less traffic, fantastic views, etc. The AMA magazine that arrived in my mailbox today lists the 15 best motorcycle roads in the US, chosen by readers from a ballot of about 100 roads. There's a bit more detail on each in the magazine, but the top 15--counting down to number 1--are: 15. WA Route 129 and OR Route 3, Clarkston WA to Enterprise OR 14. OH Route 170, Calcutta to Poland 13. CA Route 58, McKittrick to Santa Margarita 12. US Route 33, Harrisonburg VA to Seneca Rocks WV 11. Natchez Trace, from Natchez MS to Nashville TN 10. Angeles Crest Hwy, CA Route 2 9. US Route 12, Lolo Pass ID and MT 8. CA Route 36 7. Cherohala Skyway, NC and TN 6. Going to the Sun Road, Glacier National Park, MT 5. CA Highway 1, Pacific Coast Highway 4. Highway 550, Ouray to Durango CO 3. US 129, The Tail of the Dragon 2. Blue Ridge Parkway, NC 1. Beartooth Highway, MT and WY |

I posted a link to a March 2011 VR thread that talked about the 15 best motorcycle roads and I got a notice that a moderator was going to have to approve my post. Guess I got placed on the wrong list. It still has not been "approved". Weird and disheartening. I did not swear, call anyone names, call anyone out, be off color or talk politics. Let's see if this one gets approved.

PCH Rocks, although I've only done it in a mustang convertible - yes, of course with the top down. Someday maybe I'll do it on 2 wheels.

Here in New York we know NY Rt. 47 as "Frost Valley Road". I checked it out last fall as a possible ride route for a local rally and decided that it was too twisty for a group ride - but for 3-4 bikes it's a beauty!
