x2 further more the fewer pieces of protective gear one chooses not to wear. The high percentage of the medical cost that rider pays. Example no gear you pay 100% and so on.

ATGATT year round in Texas. My Concours is way too hot in town traffic in the summer. that's when my C50 gets a workout. Tourmaster Intake mesh jacket with rain liner in the saddle bag. Armored Sedi gloves. Shoei RF1100 for my big noggin, work boots, and Sliders brand kevlar lined jeans in a big size that I wear as overpants.
the key is to keep moving and try to get a light colored jacket. Not that bad when you get used to it but I can avoid stop-n-go freeways. FWIW I "came out of nowhere" and hit an oncoming car that turned in front of me in '86(???). Was almost able to stop so not too torn up. Did get to learn what it's like to lie on Texas summer asphalt with no jacket for a while as I gathered my wits. Never rode w/o a jacket after.

I had a silver/grey jacket that matched my bike. a couple of years riding around with the military wearing neon orange jackets or vests, I bought a new jacket. After looking at the local riders I realized that the "cool" black look just blends in to the back ground too much to drivers to notice you. The "orange" riders really pop out and grab my attention. Some times I pick up the color before I see the head light or hear them.
My wife vetoed the neon orange or yellow, but conceded to LOUD MOUTH Y E L L O W with black trim. I have a neon greeeeeeeeeeeennnn 3/4 jacket that is great in the rain and cold weather riding. It was a used freebie and when I wear it in traffic, I can see the driver's heads snapping to see what that was in the mirrors or in the next lane. Colors can be your friend!
