Unhappy Went down on Fathers Day - NEW update pg 11

I went from riders who will go down to riders who have gone down.

On my way to work last Sunday morning a deer decided to come out into my lane and STOP. I was going about 45 mph so I came up to it pretty quickly. I hit the brakes hard and down I went, lowsided it. Did not hit the deer which I guess ended up better for me overall. After sliding for what seemed like forever I ended up stopping in the middle of the lane and the bike nowhere to be seen. I scooted my way over to the shoulder of the road to get out of traffic. I knew my leg was busted by the way it felt. I waved down the next vehicle that came by. They called 911 for an ambulance. I swear it took them almost 1/2 hr to show up. The emt's checked me out and said I was very lucky. I certaintly didn't feel lucky! Got to the ER and had a bunch of xrays and a CT scan done. Found out I ended up breaking my left scapula (shoulder blade), a few left ribs, and my left tibia (lower leg bone) right below the knee. Some rash on my left shoulder and knee, and right wrist and elbow. I had leathers on so that saved me alot of rash! Also had full face helmet on. My left big toe is black and blue but not broken.

They put a fixator on my leg that day to let it stabilize before doing the repair surgery. Had the surgery on Tuesday afternoon. They put in 2 pins and a plate to repair the tibia. I was discharged on Friday afternoon. The pain meds have been making me a little nauseous so trying to keep eating a little at a time.

The bike was towed to a garage somewhere so I have no idea what damage there is to it. I've been more concerned about myself than the bike. I'll find out more this week.

Everyone be careful out there!

I'm very sorry to hear this but glad you will be alright (eventually). I expect the bike is probably toast but it doesn't matter...it's replaceable.

Get well soon.

It sucks but glad to hear it looks like no permanent damage.

sucks big time...glad you're ok...hope the healing goes well... maybe the lawmakers should put more efforts into requiring deer to have insurance before aimlessly wandering about on the roads instead of the energies they put into people wearing seatbelts..
