So I'm slightly mechanically inclined but I have never had to do this before and I'm not sure of how to go about it. I'm pretty sure my rear tire isn't balanced. When I go over 10 mph it starts to bounce a little. At first I just thought it was the road (roads are horrible around here) but I have had it on new pavement and its still doing it. How do I go about fixing this and can I do it myself or do I have to take it to a shop?

Check the air. Check the tire for a defect. If all is ok I recommend Dyna Beads.

At 10 mph, that sounds like your rim isn't true. I'd check that first and true up the spokes if thats the problem.

SMJONES,
I guess for my information or for others that may be curious.... what year is your bike?, how many miles? How often do you ride it? Did you run over debris, or curbing? have you tapped the spokes to determine, for yourself, if some are loose or broken? You may chime back and say none of my business, but its always helpful here to understand how, why, and what for so that other riders can benefit from your unfortunate situtation, down the road, so to speak. Thanks, rv

No problem. Bike is an '06 C50. Daily rider to and from work (only about 10 miles each way) with about 5000 miles on it. Like I said, the roads around here are crap so I hit a lot of cracks and small bumps but nothing worth mentioning. Only other bike I had was a sport bike so this is my first experience with spoked rims
