Default DJ Conversion. Saddle Bags and Safe speed for motor

Alright... I'm new as heck to the cruiser game. I just traded in my GSXR for a C50T and man was the ride home down 95 a change. Being that there's no tach, whats a safe speed to ride this thing on the highway at? Am I doing any stress damage to the bike riding it at 70 or 80 mph? I felt like I was pushing it a bit. Until I save up some money for the DJ conversion I don't want to have to stay off the highway

Ok lol onto my next question, Saddle Bags. I took mine off because I liked the look at bit better without them, but man was it a pain. I was looking at cruisercustomizing.com and I couldn't find anything other than these $30 quick release body fasteners? Is there a better solution for putting on and taking off the bags?

And lastly, the DJ conversion... I don't fully understand it and when I did a search and went across google I found a bunch of forums talking about it but no real tutorial... I did see a really old post or two about someone actually putting them together and selling them whole for like $525 polished but when I followed the link to their webpage it was taken down, is there anywhere I can buy this conversion done? While I'm pretty darn handy, I don't like to trust myself messing with building parts that could potentially get me in a nasty accident or break something on my bike bad if I don't have to haha...

Sorry for the million questions and thanks in advance for helping!

Here's one of the members involved with sales of C90 conversion drives.
New KruZ Drive

Here's an explanation of the mod:

I can't speak to the question of saddlebag quick release mounting, I never take mine off, but as for the safe speed, yeah the Boulevards sound like they really could use a sixth gear, but they're fine at 80mph. You should try a set of V&H pipes on it, the bike gets really loud at that speed. I ride mine on the interstates all the time at 80+ and haven't seen any indications of excessive wear. I know it's a bit louder than a GSXR, but lean back and enjoy the ride, that's what owning a cruiser is all about. You'll find that you won't care how long it takes to get there, as long as you're on your bike!

Welcome to the site. There are all types of quick release brackets for hard mount saddlebags.

Saddlebag Supports (Quick Release) :: Saddlebag Supports :: Luggage & Storage :: Cruiser :: Edge Xtreme Sports

Ghost Brackets Quick Release Saddlebag System - Suzuki

MUTAZU Motorcycle Trunks (it actually is a link to their quick detach saddle bag bracket)

are a couple of them. From what I've seen a pretty much all sites that sell hard saddle bags sell some type of quick release mounts as well that can be used on any hard bag, not just their own.

Thanks!! I just noticed they all say "for bikes with no backrest" since I have the C50T I have the backrest, so if I want to use it for my wife, I can't with the quick release installed?

You may have to use different length bolts, but there isn't any reason I can think of that you can't use a quick release with a backrest on the bike.

Looking at the ghost brackets, they do have a version that says "for use without backrest", but they also have a version that is for use with backrests, and a "Backrest kit" in case you buy the first kit then add a backrest later.

I also noticed in reading that the Edge extreme sports bracket and the the Ghost bracket are now one and the same (the description paragraph is almost word for word the same).

Speed is a good question on these bikes. First, I suggest you check your speedo as it seems to be something of a running joke that these bikes are often off by about 10% (50 mph on the speedo equals 45 mph, actual. 100 speedo, 90 actual).

If memory serves, red line on the c50 engine is 6500 RPM which is somewhere north of 105 MPH. They seem to run a bit high at highway speeds and sound a bit 'buzzy', but otherwise seem to do ok. (Although I'm looking forward to the return of my now repaired Kruz Drive and a rear end swap.)

I noticed above 75mph wind buffeting was something of an annoyance, but a pair of lower windshields solved that. Stable as fast I've cared to take it since then. (Somewhere north of 90 MPH ... or so ... allegedly)

I put on a set of easy off brackets Easy Brackets best thing ever done, and no problem with backrest...take off in 20 seconds...on mabbe 5 minutes, after taking the oem bolts out of the fender a few times you'll see why the easyoffs are a good investment
Hiway speeds, well remember one thing, its a 800 cc engine, keeep doing 80-90 and it just wears out faster....its meant to run around 60-70...

Thanks for making me feel better Tater, I thought my speedo was jacked up. When I'm in my truck and doing 80, I'm usually blowing past people, but when I'm on my bike doing 80 I get blue hairs giving me the finger. I was wondering what the **** that was about and starting to question my sanity.

Green values are speedometer speeds I have Used on my 2007 C50. Values shown are approximate and are mathematically calculated not speedometer speeds. Hope you guys like me without a Tack find this useful. The C50 likes to be revved and it has a computer RPM limiter. It can however be overreved by shifting down at too high a speed. But the bike has no way to prevent engine damage from lugging which comes from loading the bike too hard at low RPM. If riding two up let the bike rev a little more than normal it will thank you. If I am crusing near the bottom of a gears range I generally will downshift to accelerate rather than just twist the throttle.

Max RPM is 7800 which means in 5th gear you would have to go a little over 120 to hit max revs but of course the bike doesn't make enough HP to go about 125 MPH. Calculated speed which is real speed not speedometer speed. Unless you are coming down off a really big mountain you cannot over rev the C50 in 5th gear.
