Hi all,
I have a 2002 volusia or an intruder or... the title says 2002 volusia the badges on the gas tank said intruder... what do I have? I assumed they were the same (or maybe a trim level difference), but I just read a thread in the swap meet where one person mentioned having a volusia (01-02) and bought parts from the intruder and they don't match... anyone that can help get through this n00b question? |

Intruder is a family name, you have a Volusia which belongs to that family. 01-04 they are Volusia's. After 05 the family name changed to Boulevard which the C50 (former Volusia) is part of. Usually if someone is talking Intruders it is usually the 800 or 1400 intruder, this is we're it seems complicated, you want to make sure you find parts for either the Volusia or by the VL800 name. (the VL800 indicator can be for all Volusias and C50's). The VS800 or VS1400 indicators are for the Intruders.
01-02 are the years where the badge only said Intruder and side stickers said Volusia. 03-04 had badges the had both intruder and volusia on the badge. Oh, if you wonder why all the name/brand changing, it's called marketing

Fair warning while Suzuki 800 shafty's share a lot of common parts some things like wheels , rear brake assemblies, rotors and forks are/maybe different in some cases by enough to not work in others close enough but clearly not the same. Some of the other 800's have parts that you would think should work but are completely incompatible components even for the same model year (such as wheels for instance). Suzuki made that aspect of these bikes loads of fun with parts from each model being interchangeable across models for some model years but not others. Example some M50/Marauder's are chain drive, some are shaft, some have the front rotor pipe side some have them on the drive side, some have different engines, some are nearly identical and have a very short list of components that are unique to that model. A couple years ago I bought a used VL800/intruder rear only to find that the rim was significantly narrower and the inside of the drum was larger than the unit that came off my bike. Lesson learned watch for the "ribs/fins" on the drum next time. The wheel fit, and it did work but the brake was sloppy and it needed a thicker wheel spacer. Ended up returning it, seller wasn't happy but wasn't going to argue, seeing as it did not fit the bike he listed it was supposed to fit.
