So I just bought a used 2007 C50 and its my first bike since I had to sell mine due to my first child being born 10 years ago. It sounds like its running kind of rough. What are some suggestions from ya'll, should I have a mechanic go over it and do a tune up? Valve adjustment? I believe I'll do a coolant flush and oil change regardless. But some suggestions for stuff to look for would be great.

I had a 2003 Volusia prior to this bike so I've come back! I was on this site 10-12 years ago when I had my bike the first time but I couldn't access my user name, or remember it for that matter.

Thanks in advance!

welcome back...probably wouldn't hurt to do a complete service on the bike not knowing how the bike was cared for before you purchased it...would also check the age of the tires regardless of how well they may appear to look...I'm sure many will chime in and direct you to what you should address immediately. Good luck.

Check all rubber hoses and I'd replace the brake line with a braided steel one. If it's running rough, try some seafoam thru the tank, it may just be old gas. Others will chime in with more tips.

It is a 10 year old bike. Per the manual, you should do the following after 4 years:

Replace all the hoses under the tank
Replace the front brake lines; refill the master cylinder with DOT 4 brake fluid
Replace the final drive oil
If the tires are original, replace them due to age, regardless of remaining tread.

In addition to the age related maintenance, it is due to have the spark plugs replaced, air filter replaced, oil and oil filter replaced, coolant replaced and perform a complete valve adjustment.

This will establish a baseline for you on the maintenance (assume it has never been done, unless the seller can produce records). After you've done the basics, you can start looking at the performance/rideability issue.

Awesome baseline idea's! I'll get started today! I should be able to do some of that from home! Excite to get back in the saddle!
