Default Rubbing sound after Hamling Drive install

Installed a Hamling drive a couple of months or so ago and I've come to notice sort of a rubbing/almost grinding sound. I don't ride two up often but a couple of weeks after install I was carrying a passenger and I first noticed it then. After noticing it initially I started paying more attention and it happens any time the suspension is compressed (i.e. bouncing over a speed bump). I adjusted the suspension to the stiffest setting and I'm still getting it on occasion, and seemingly constantly when I do ride two up. My first thought was drive shaft is too long, but it was supposedly used without issue before I bought it so I just assumed the shaft was within spec. Guess I'm going to be pulling her back apart this weekend to check, and if it is too long, I plan on just trimming down the engine side of the u joint.

My question is, is there something else I should be on the lookout for that could be causing this? Since the drive and shaft were used by a previous member without any issues to my knowledge I just want to have all my bases covered while I have her torn down.

Check your brake setting. When riding 2 up the rear suspension on the bike compresses which will change the geometry for the brake rod tensioner. May have to adjust it loose. Could be the brake shoes dragging that you hear.

^^^^Absolutly^^^^

Also, what you describe is the sound my u-joint made when I ran my bike with C90 drive and a stock length driveshaft.

So yes, I would verify the true length of the driveshaft.

Also, u-joints do wear out, even when the driveshaft is the correct length.

Didn't think of that. Thanks for the tip.

Loosened it to where there's barely any tension when I step on the brake pedal and took it for a spin around the parking lot. Bounced on it to compress the suspension while I was rolling and I'm still getting the noise.

Yup Check drive shaft length 15 3/4" From End of shaft to shoulder before the end splines
If too long- get it machined shorter!

Don't think it's the u-joint itself, since I never had the problem with the stock drive but had it almost instantly after the C90 install. And adjusting the brake didn't seem to make any difference. So I guess it's back to taking everything apart this weekend to verify driveshaft length.

15 3/4", gotcha. I still have the stock driveshaft I was going to use for comparison but you just saved me the trouble of having to dig it out of my buddy's garage

Mine was not related to carrying 2-up but I had to install a thin washer between the wheel hub and drive on the left side due to variance in thickness of the hubs on cast wheels. When I torqued the axle nut properly the wheel would drag slightly.
