Default How often do you change your Mobil 1 ?

Mobil 1 users, how often do you change your Mobil 1? I switched to Mobil1 from Rotella. Love how the Mobil1 cleans the engine. But, at 2K, the oil is quite dark. I use K&N filters. Rotella stayed clearer a lot longer.

PS
I know Mobil 1 is cleaning the engine because the first time I used it the oil was darn near black at 1,500. I used seafoam and, the oil turned black. I changed the oil and filter immediately. Now, the oil gets darker than I'm comfortable with at 3K.

Thanks for your help !

I don't believe it matters what type of oil you put in the crankcase. You're supposed to change it at the manufacturer specified interval, which is 3,500 miles. The oil does double duty as engine lubricant as well as transmission lubricant. The shearing forces exerted on the oil by the gear clusters will make any oil break down.

I change oil (dino) and the oil almost immeadiatly changes color.

I change oil by the miles not the color.

If I went by color change I would never be riding but just changing oil It turns dark pretty fast. I use Rotella T6 in both bikes, I throw in some seafoam right before change to clean it out some. Usually around 3-3500, depending if I'm taking a long trip, always change right before trips no matter mileage.

for some reason it seems that mobile 1 turns dark much quicker than other oils. i don't worry about the color and change the bmw at 6,000 mile intervals per the OEM.

porshe boxsters use Mobile 1 with a 15,000 mile interval

I wouldn't worry about it. Mobil 1 is good oil and holds up great in water cooled engines. I run it 5-6K in my C50 and 10k+ in my car.

Why would Suzuki or any other engine manufacturer place information in an owners manual that would be detrimental to engine life?

My last oil (mobile 1 v/twin 20w50) change ran for 4500 miles. The last 900 of those miles was a trip to the Smokys.

Oil analysis showed TBN to still be good. Only thing in question was a little extra aluminum. My blackstone lab letter stated the aluminum was due to the young engine still breaking in. Only had 8500 at that time. Blackstone lab said to "go 5500 miles on next oil change". My engine used NO OIL!

All these guys that say, "My oil is dark", "I just feel better knowing" or "safe than sorry" ect. are wasting good money. Guys, the oil we run nowadays is 10 times better than it was 20-30 years ago.
Hoe many people older than 40 remember seeing an engine smoking on the highway? Nowadays I might see 2 engines smoking per month.
Unless your oil has the consistency of paste and without doing an oil anaylsis, early oil changes are worthless.
Maybe the oil recycle companies appreciate all the "good oil" they recieve.

Flame suit ON.

I agree with hi Vis that small oil change intervals are unnecessary but i have noticed the comfort deteriorates the more miles you put and the sound keeps increasing slowly. People who prefer comfort, less noise from the engine and can afford to oil change will still continue to follow small intervals. I have noticed it in cars as well. New oil, car is quieter. Time to change, not so quiet
