Hi, I am Kev, in the UK. Just got a VL800, 2001. It was my brother's, he bought it 5 days before he died, rode it once, I bought it to cover the funeral expenses, so now it comes into my life.I have not had a bike on the road for some years. Its a really clean bike, 15,000 miles, I have only been out on it a couple of times, and it has already had me searching for info on it, it seems to suffer from what seems to be a common problem of running too lean and having to run with the choke out, but thats not a good fix, as it then over revs at junctions etc, maybe after a good run it will warm up and be ok, maybe it needs re-jetting, it has a K&N air filter so maybe thats the cause, and the clutch noise that i posted about already, just getting to know the bike and wanting it to be right, even if that means it has idiosyncrasies that belong to this family!! As long as its normal, its ok. It sounds a bit agricultural, I would like it to sound a bit more throaty, not too loud, just a nice burble! Well, thanks for being here already. To the open road.......

Sorry for your loss. Welcome aboard. Do a search on here for the Honest Abe mod to the exhaust. It will give you the throaty sound without being super loud.

Hi Kev.

So sorry about your brother. I'm sure he is happy to have you riding it. Ride safe in his honor.

Welcome from Alberta Canada.

We can deal with the bike running problems over on the other thread.
