Hey Lois Mack, in a nut shell it is swapping out the oem final drive on, a C50, M50 , Vl800 etc with either a vs1400 or C90 (1500) final drive. It basically lowers the overall RPM's of the bike making it much more comfortable to ride at highway cruizing speeds. It also widens the bandwith out in all gears. Most people felt the bike should have come with a 6th gear. This was an answer to that need. Basically reduces the RPMs by about 15%. There are many great instructions and reviews on this forum. There are different methods to completing the job. One of the first pioneers of this mod was a fellow by the name of DJ Hillis hence the popular term DJ Drive. M50Dave is a member from Alliston Ontario that made a slightly easier mod to my drive shaft and has supplied the mod for many other, so I in fun used the term M50Dave'd. M50Dave is a great person to contact if you are interested in buying one up here in Canada. There is also a newer version of a drive mod called the Kruz Drive which uses a Cavalcade drive. M50Dave does these as well. Do a search on the DJ drive and Kruz drive and it should answer more of your questions. Here is a link to one of the best explanations. The DJ Drive mod explained Most people claim it is one of the best mods they have done to their Suzzi. I am one of them.

Hey Vol4Life, to paraphrase field of dreams... "If you buy it you will ride it" having made the investment for the bike it is obviously killing you that you are not riding all the time. I can relate. Running multiple business, Family, Kids , civic responsibilities etc., takes all of my time. What I have found is weekends can be dicey to get away for hours on end. My solution is Weekday rides. I joined a group that rides on wednesday nights. They ride on weekend too but that sometimes will not work. I also take the bike wherever I can whenever I can. Gym, grocery store, for work when it is suitable. You will be surprised how you can get your riding fix satisfied.

Mike, you nailed it. That's my plan this Spring when the days start getting longer and the kiddo can play outside after work with the other neighborhood children (less guilt for me, ha). Thinking about ditching Wed night softball for riding, too! I've even thought about getting up very early on Sat / Sun morning and riding but we have to seriously watch for deer in this neck of the woods early AM and at dusk. My coworker, who also owns a body shop, says they get a nice piece of business from deer collisions.
Good suggestions on the errands but I'm gonna need some nice saddle bags to carry that gallon of milk. Let me break that to the wife today; she loves it when I talk motorcycle accessories!! |

Bike nights, Tuesday night....ride and stop at Hooters and check out the bikes.
Bike nights, Thursday night...ride and stop at a local HD shop. Hot dogs and sodas are $1 each, beer is free....think about that for a bit. |

Maybe down the road. But I'm trying to avoid the temptation of beer / riding combo. I like them both a lot!!
Honestly, I try not to mix them at all. Not that you have to drink at those events but would be hard for me to not "just have one". |

Hey KY Lake. Where is that by the way? I grew up in East TN, lived in Johnson City, Knoxville, and Chattanooga (well, right on the TN/GA line).
Yeah, free beer and bike nights. It sounds good but it's not like you can get a DD or just leave it in the parking lot like a car. Way too tempting for me. Now if the bar or dealer offered a free trailer-it-home service.......boohya |
