Question G'day from a new m50 rider

G'day. How you all going. Recently just bought an 08 m50. Nice bike.

After 15 odd years riding sports bike, then having a Prang where I stuffed my wrist. I thought it was time to try the cruisier riding style. Specially as now I can't take the riding possi of the sports bike anymore due to the stuffed wrist

So far I'm enjoying it. Getting used to the "feet in front" riding position.

I have a querie for those of greater knowledge (which to be honest is the vast majority). This morning on the way to work I notice the back break was sticky. Ie I put my foot on the pedel and it doesn't return - ( the pedal that is. Not my foot )

This is the second time it's happened. First time I just hit the lever with some wd40 and worked it back and forth till it came good again.

Any one else had this issue?

Cheers and thanks in advance for the feedback.

I had that happen to an old bike. If you got it used, the previous owner may not have taken as good care of it as you would've liked. Pull the front brake assembly off clean it and re-grease it. there might be rust stuck in there. The WD40 will loosen it up for a little while until it dries out again and the rust clumps up. Very easy job, shouldn't take long at all. If that's not the problem, follow the rod to the rear up and make sure nothing is in it's way, make sure all the joints can rotate freely. Can't be too complicated as there aren't that many parts. And if that isn't it, well the last thing would be that your pads are so worn that they get stuck but that requires you removing the rear tire to check. A full inspection of the brake system won't hurt. I'd check everything and leave the pads for last. My 2 cents. Good luck! And have fun riding!!!

What T-Man said, check for return spring being missing.

+1 As Brakes and Tires very important for riding safely.

Missing a spring. Sounds like a possibility but having any brake problem on a used bike makes checking the whole brake system seem like a great plan it could save you a lot of grief down the road.

G'day Nookbear
Try a bit of grease for lubrication instead of the Wd40.
