Demoed a TriGlide for 7 days

For those not in Facebook, I rented a Triglide for 7 days. Below are my thoughts during the entire experience.

Day 1: Saturday 6/10

So I went to the dealership to pick up the rental and behold the TriGlide they gave me

this TriGlide (TG) had many upgrades to what I was expecting a stock TG, the wheels were chromed, they put a stage 1 A/C and a SE exhaust (sounded nice), and trike saddlebags.

After the signing the papers, I had to show I can ride it, and after initially trying to counter steer I finally mustered the strength to steer and did an awkward slow figure eight.

after riding to my house much longer than it takes me, I swapped out the seat with my mustang, and added the highway pegs from my Ultra, so I can be more comfortable in this long ride.

The TG is all loaded ready for the long haul!!!

was suppose to ride VA with Mike and Mary then BRP, but they had to cancel their trip, so I changed my plans to attend Laconia instead. Since I was in a learning curve, I thought it would be easier to get used to the trike in highway riding then twisties of the BRP. I was able to score on a nice bed and breakfast in Tilton, NH late on the eve of the start of the rally. Somebody cancelled, so looks like it was meant to be.

As as the day wore on and I was getting closer to my destination, I was getting more confortable on turns. I was using the tips from TrikeTalk.com about planting your foot on the side of the outer edge of turn to lessen the degree of inertia, it helped some. I got to the Inn with no mishaps, so it was a victory for me!!

Tommorrow the rally!!!

Day 2: Sunday, 6/11

Rode 10 miles north to Weirs Beach in Laconia.

I must say, I've demoed the M8, but how much can u really get a feel on a 10 minute ride, this engine is superb!! Lots of power and torque and for a big rig too. Used 6th gear all the time yesterday and felt no heat on 85 degree weather. I've read in TrikeTalk.com, that the M8 on a TriGlide still produces lots of heat, maybe because I'm so used to the heat on my 11 RGU, but I felt none, the only time I felt some slight heat, was when I got stuck in 30 minute traffic looking for a spot to park, I did find one though.

Was surprised of the amount of trike riders. Had a great time at the rally. below are some pics

beautiful Roadmaster!!!!

I registered to demo Harleys and never did. I really did not want to mess with me used to riding a trike for now, did not want to try to counter steer when I go back to the rental TG.

For Beeze, they had lots of shirts like these.

ended the day by going to the local Harley dealership. they had lots of staff on duty (yellow shirts)

Trike parking spot by the vendors at the HD dealership

anybody want a M8 bike!!!

somebody lend me $47K ...please!!!

Day 3: Monday, June 12

I rode to the NH Motor Speedway to visit California SideCar.

once there, I got initially sidetracked and demoed a Slingshot

I get the Slingshot now. I thought it was to compete against trikes, wrong!!, it’s if you want that roadster feeling. Although for $28K, I rather have a used sportscar.

I went to the Yamaha tent and was completely caught off guard by the new Venture!!!!

They did not allow demos, as they just announced it and it will be out in July. They did allow me to sit on it and turn it on. This will compete with the GW and the BMW K1600. COG is very low, low seat as I can flat foot it, excellent ergonomics and electronics. $28K though

Anyway, after being sidetracked, I finally go to the main goal, and I talk to Tony from CSC in length and they let me demo a 08 Independent suspension conversion.......OMG!!

this is the way to go, and the 11 degree rake makes the steering so easy (vs the TG). I was blown away that this is the setup if I convert my current 11RGU.

a phenomenal beautiful FXR parked near the vendors!!

a RG Trike

So after that wonderful experience I decided to ride around lake Winnipesaukee and then I got the "a-ha" moment. I started to lean my upper body into the turns and I felt very little inertia trying to slide me off the seat on turns. I had such a ball, was running the rig faster, and really enjoyed tight sweeping turns to the point I caught up to a few cars and bikers and was egging them on to go faster.

went I went back to the Inn a few of the guests who are attending the rally made a note that I wasn't struggling on the turns to park the TG like yesterday.

since I got the TG till Thursday, I decided to ride to Buffalo and visit Mike and Mary.

Day 4: Tuesday, June 13

No pics as I rode from Laconia to Hamburg, NY. I did have a ball riding VT-9 on my way to NY. I guess Iím really getting the hang of handling the TG. One thing I did note, the TG produces 25mpg if you ride 80mpg, 32 mpg if you go 70mpg, tell me how I know

Day 5: Wed, June 14.

rode with Mary and Mike the entire day. First we went to Gowanda HD, then we rode all over. It was a nice leisurely ride with great friends, the soul needed this.

Day 6: Thu, June 15

Rode home. One thing I must do is buy a Russell Day long Seat, I think the Mustang seat is done after 20K miles. My tailbone was killing me went I arrived home. Also got a workout on my arms and my back is sore. That is what a trike does to you.

Day 7: Fri, June 16 and recap

Well I’m back home, I removed my accessories and returned the TG back to Ocean County HD. 1,645 miles!!! I must say was very surprised how much I liked the trike. It took me three days to finally ride the trike to it’s full potential and when I did, I had a ball. Especially, when I rode the TG from Laconia to Buffalo, I rode VT-9 better than I would’ve on my 2-wheel RG Ultra.

One thing to note, I wasn’t complaining much on the rear suspension during the entire trip, in fact, I thought it was not as bad as everybody indicated in TrikeTalk, but when I returned home and before I turned her in, I reduced the rear tires pressure from 35psi to 25psi and increased the rear suspension from 20 to 30, I could not believe how much better it was to ride. live and learn.

below is an event pic that was taken on Rt 11 north of Laconia. Was riding around lake Winnipesaukee.

Ironic that when I returned the trike, an owner had one that I would have it set up the same way. the only thing is, it has to be red Hope you enjoyed the summary above as much as I did. Till next time!!!

I think you discovered this on your own but it doesn't hurt to reinforce it, my wife currently rides a CSC GL1800 Goldwing trike with independent rear suspension. Her first trike had a straight rear axle. The difference in the ride and handling is day and night between the two, so if you're in the market I can't urge you enough to go with the CSC conversion.
