My friend is selling both of his bikes. I've been looking to upgrade, so perfect timing. I want to buy both but the wife said that's not happening, pick one. Common sense says f6b for comfort and reliability. My hot rod sense says m109 for the coolness factor, and, well, I've been wanting one. Going on a 200 mile burger run tomorrow to ride one there and ride the other one back. I would like some insight and opinions from you fine folks. Do any of Ya'll own either of these bikes? HELP!
Guess it all depends on what your looking for if you want a bad ass cruiser the m109 which is what I have been eyeballin as well or the m90 but If your looking for the ultimate long trip machine the f6b is the way to go.Dont think youcan go wrong either way but if you and the wife like riding together on trips then the f6b is it.What year are both of them?
I vote for the 'wing if that's your only ride. But I already have one, so I am a bit biased. All joking aside, the Honda is a 120HP cruise missile. It's smoothe as silk and goes like stink. It doesn't corner like my buddies K1600GTL, but it does everything else well.
I agree with TG, my next bike might be a nice wing, to do my bucket list ride back home to San Diego. Again,M109 is badass, but not practical for long rides.
Well the burger run got rescheduled for next weekend, he had something come up. Both bikes are 2013. M109 has 600 miles on it and a few mods. Thunder cone intakes, programmer, sideburner exhaust, windshield, and a Corbin seat.
F6b has 400 miles on it and it's bone stock. The wife rides very little (think she's waiting on a trike), something about pegs grinding pavement makes her scared. The honda just seems to look like every other f6b. Kinda plain and all the same. She did give me my aarp card the other day, guess I'm qualified to buy the wing now.
IMO I would go with the Wing. If I was not such a die hard Harley guy the F6B would be parked in my garage, but on the other hand I have never liked the M109 at all. Never could get my head around the purpose of the bike.
The M109 is ponderously heavy. It doesn't ride very well and is not at all comfortable for a long ride. It is meant to go in a straight line and make you look as cool as possible to passers by.
The F6B on the otherhand is a dream to ride. It is even more nimble and handles better than the standard Wing. The shorty windscreen is really there for show, so a taller one is in order. But other than that, there's a reason the bike remains stock.... Honda NAILED the design.....
No brainer. Ditch the power cruiser and get something you'll want to ride. F6B all the way.
My buddy has a M109 and he tours with it all the time. He rides 500 mile days several times a year. He solves the storage problem with strap on luggage that works great. I've followed this bike through many mountain roads and can tell you it handles just fine.
We did an aggressive ride up the tail of Dragon together. I was on my C50T. While the 109 did turn in a bit slower than the C50, the massive torque shot it out of the turns like a rocket.
The F6B has a totally different seating position than the 109. If you are a tall guy and have big feet the F6B is a challenge to get comfortable on. The toes of my boots actual touch the cylinder heads on the Honda. The riders triangle is a good bit smaller on the F6B.
Both bikes are fast. Very fast .. for what they are.
I'm not saying the 109 is a better bike, I'm saying don't rule it out.
I don't really need to make a move, just seemed like the thing to do. Thought I could get a basically a new bike and let him take the $4000 loss. My Vol does everything I need it to do 90 % of the time. The only time I feel like I need something more is when I get in a bind trying to pass, the 2 times a year when the wife wants to ride, or the days I feel like running 200 mph. I would love to go on some long runs, but my life doesn't seem to work out that way. I'm lucky to get to do 700 miles one way.
I don't know man, I hear you on the hotrod thing but man the Wing is just an entirely different level of bike than the Vol. Kind of like comparing a Yugo to a BMW 5 series, both will get you there but oh the Beamer does it in so much comfort, style, and is just a whole lot more fun to drive. M109 is kind of like a 60s muscle car, fun to mash the gas pedal but that is all it does well. Maybe you are just after a bar hopper and cruising the back roads on your Vol satisfies the itch.
Thought about keeping the Vol and filling the void with the 109. It's kinda his falt, I rode the 109 to his dealer 6 months ago, about 7 miles. It took me 3 days to wipe the grin off my face !! Knowing the reputation of the wing, I figured I would be dumb not to at least consider it.
With the m109, I thought I read about some 2nd gear problems. Don't remember exactly what it was, but to fix it, you need to split the cases. Might want to look on some forums for the problem
It is as good a bike as they've built. I think they put much more thought into the design as they have in the past. I think Harley owners have Indian and Victory to thank for that. The new glide certainly is not their parts bikes from the past few years.
Still, I'd much rather have the way more powerful and better handling wing or K16 as a touring bike. And when it comes to looks, that Indian at Octovrfest, hands down, was the most beautiful motorcycle I have seen in 40 years.
My old bike I would have but not this one. It gets and goes but I would not call it quick. Now once my warranty is up and I drop in something a little hotter we can talk. 107, 120, who knows, but it will be a tire burner...
Well, I generally find any fairing on a bike unattractive. That whole bike is unbelievably beautiful. The detail work on the engine, the tank, the frame and that leather gear on it just looked flat amazing. It was the total package, and no slouch as a runner. On my yellowstone trip, I saw a lot of Indians and every one of them was just gorgeous.
