I posted this in the nooby section, but I wanted to get it out in the general discussion as well:
I am considering buying a 2008 C50t with 22000 miles. It was a daily commuter of 40 miles each way, so miles got racked up rather quickly. Oil and filter changed on 4k intervals. Tires on the bike now are about a year and a half old. Previous owner purchased it used from a dealer with 800 miles. Don't know if it had the 600 mile valve adjustment or not, but it hasn't had one since purchased. Should there be any major concerns in considering this bike, given the maintence or lack thereof? |

it's only a concern depending on how much you pay for it... If the bike sounds fine and runs well. When you get it home, give a valve adjustment, go over everything, brakes, oil, oil filter, air filter heck new plugs... and you should be good. I bought mine with 22 000 miles in the fall of 2011 and left for a cross country road trip 2 days later without checking anything... I should have but I didn't.... But she's good so far. (I have checked and adjusted everything afterwards... )

If the bike hasn't had a valve adjustment since the 600 mile service, it's really going to need one asap. With buying anything from someone you don't know, you take your chances.
just as an example - my '09 m50 same engine as the c50, when i checked the valves at 600 miles, all but one valve was in spec. the rest were tight. I know each bike is a little different, but at 22000 miles, i can't help but wonder how tight those valves are now... just my .02 cents.

Is there anyone selling a C50 closer even if the price is higher? You could test ride that bike and get an idea of what it should sound and ride like. Or you could stop at a dealership and test ride one.

When I bought mine I had the guy ride it to me. It was about 20 miles, so I could see if there was oil leaks and if it ran right. I knew nothing of the bike... Oh did I mention that I flew out to buy it? hahaha I told him that if the bike was what he said it was I would take it. Low and behold, he kept it for me and the bike was awesome. I guess I lucked out. I did give it a top end rebuild after my road trip... And then I got to learning as much as I could about the bike. Like pretty much everyone on the site, I like to do my own work...
