Default 2003 1500 Nomad or 2002 Victory TC92V???

Sadly, my 2006 1500 Classic has an intermittent electrical problem that no one can seem to track down & I'm tired of dealing with it. The bike is going to go on Craigslist & someone who has more time & know how can get themselves a deal.

Anyway, I did some looking online & two bikes have jumped out at me. Both can be had for $3500 so I'm trying to decide which.

2003 1500 Nomad. Bike looks exceptionally clean & has a lot of extras (also has new front & rear tires), but clocks in at 49k miles. Owner says the bike runs fantastic & he's only selling because he has some bills to pay. I like the cast wheels but I'm not crazy about the color. But I guess beggars can't be choosers.

Pic below (not sure why he had his old lady stand in front of the bike, but whatever).

2002 Victory TC92V. Bike looks used, but has very low miles...only 8,500! It looks like the stock bike to me, but I don't know a lot about Victory motorcycles. I know it's air & oil cooled, which doesn't thrill me, but it works for a lot of folks here in FL. Not a fan of the spoked wheels, but other than that I like the overall look of the bike.

Pic below

So for the same money, based on what you can see & what I've shared, which seems like the better deal? I've not seen either in person yet. Will be seeing the Victory tomorrow and the Nomad on Thursday...unless the mechanic can officially resolve the electrical issue tomorrow. I have my doubts though, but not due to his ability. Just because this issue has been going on since May and no one can seem to figure it out.

Thanks in advance!

Keep looking. This time of year you should find tons of good deals. Maybe you should look further north were people are trying to sell there bike in a colder weather and cheaper with less miles. Might be worth a trip with a U-haul trailer.

Hey! A 2003 model with 8500 miles sounds fishy! Plus i would personally bet on a Kawasaki than a victory for reliability.

You have to test ride them, or any motorcycle. As you gain experience riding, you know better what is comfortable for you. My recomendation is to test ride a few models, then get the best deal on one that fits you and not to jump at what seems the best deal of the day (week).

When I purchased my last bike, I test rode different bikes. Dave and Al both had Nomads and loved them. I found good deals, with cash in hand and test rode them. For some reason, it just did not feel right. When I finally rode the bike I ended up with, I knew it fit me and the way I rode. Only then did I start specifically looking for the best deal on that bike.

If you purchase a bike that all you have done is sit on it, you don't know how it handles or really how you will like it. Either one might be a great bike for you, but it is not even as good as 50/50.

Ride first, then decide.

The tank on the Nomad is either not the original or it has been repainted..... Probably not an issue but something to consider....

Ask me how I know....

My 2003 is going in for work this weekend, the engine cases need to be split to fix a tranny problem I caused this summer by agressive shifting. The shifter fork is bent causing the bike to pop out of 2nd gear when on the throttle. Test drive the Nomad if you can it is not an uncommon problem.

+ 1 on the test rides. The bike may look pertty n' feel good on the lot, but riding it will tell you if it's a keeper. Some engines are smoother and less buzzy at speed, some bikes feel like a brick when turning at slow speeds, etc.

depends on how much you ride on if the mileage on the kawasaki would worry me. I am of the opinion that, for the most part, take care of your bike and it will last over 100k miles, so if you put 10k a year on the bike you are looking at around a 5+ year span before u hit the 100k.
I would have to check prices, but I know I recently just paid $3900 for my 2008 C50, which was as low as I could find any around here. The Nomad is obviously a lot more bike. So for $3500, I would take a good long look at it.
I would do some research on mileage and see what people are getting out of them, but I would be surprised if it wasn't 100k plus.
Only nomad selling in my area at that price is a 2001 that has melted wires and needs repaired. Everything else is going for $5800 and up

100K plus on the Nomad is nothing. Solid bike. There is a bike for sale on the VBA site that has about same miles but is a 07. Cost more but I know Ross and would buy a bike from him, he is a great mechanic and has upgraded his bike and keeps everything in perfect condition. (if I didn't have one I would buy this one from him).

Yes, and check out VBA often for Nomads for sale, there are some good deals.

Thanks all for the responses. Of course I would test ride both, but I was simply asking from a value standpoint.

I got to see the Victory today. Looks & sounds good. No test ride due to rain, but I will.

I put over 20k on my Vulcan last year, so miles is a consideration. 8400 is really low. Guy who bought it is disabled (has the disabled Florida tag still on it) and can't ride anymore. Dealer rides it a few miles 1x a week. Bike fires right up, idled smooth & sounded great.

Sent from my Samsung Epic 4G, but not while riding!

Check the Vic's tires, if they are original they are now pretty old. If the sale is from a dealer see what they will do for you.....
