If E-10 cost 10% less than non-ethanol and gets 10% less MPGS then where's the benefit?

On a nearly flat interstate E-10 drops my fuel mileage by 6%. Driving in town E-10 drops my fuel mileage by 11%.

Currently the USA is a net oil exporter in 2011 The U.S. exported more gasoline, diesel and other fuels than it imported in 2011 for the first time since 1949. It was do to more than one thing below are some of the many things; it's looking at the whole picture seeing both the forest and the trees. The global demand for oil is up with it costing a more money to obtain oil from offshore deep oil drilling, the high cost of the Alaska Pipeline, Middle East Oil (hard to figure in the War Costs).

* 90% of USA gas at 10% USA Ethanol mostly produced using USA non Oil Energy.
* Better MPG from new cars driven by bipartisan congressional mandates.
* Cash for Clunkers
* Energy from alternate energy sources Wind, Sun, Rain (Dams).
* Improved USA oil production methods.
* Increased use of USA Natural Gas.
* Increased use of Motorcycles and Scooters for commuting.

And you can always find someone who opposes everything on the above list.

Actually, we have ethanol in the US because the farmers have bigger/better PACs in DC. Farmers like all that extra taxpayer subsidies for their corn. It cost more to make a gallon of gasohol than a gallon of just gasoline. If the subsidies would go away, gasohol would go away. Matter of fact, one gasohol refinery in Indiana has temp shut down because corn prices are thru the roof due to the drought.

Yes it is, because farmer organizations donate hundreds of millions of dollars each year to Senators and Congressmen, who vote on the farmers bills which us taxpayers then have to pay higher taxes, so farmers can sell more corn at higher prices.

Of course farmers and farmer organizations are part of the reason we have ethanol but it's also because Ethanol was so successful in providing Brazil with energy independence. We could make political contributions illegal

but our jails are currently full of those who supply

Makes sense to me buy corn and make Ethanol when the price is low. I heat with both wood I harvest myself and Oil I buy when the price is low. Haven't seen low oil prices in a long time. Hence I use the oil heat a lot less and wood a lot more. In the North West we are known as wood chucks. Using wood is a double winner it heats you twice once when you harvest it and once when you burn it.

Jan 2012 congress eliminated Ethanol subsidies as Corn ethanol is now commercially viable without the subsidy.

However Obama has been unable to get Congress to eliminate Oil subsidies.

Our government would't subsidise Mega Farmers (that live in Manhatten) to grow corn and then force us to use ethanol in our fuel and allow high fructose corn syrup in our foods and then force us to buy health insuance. Would they ?

CORRECTION:
I just remembered that tank I reported "6%" drop was a 1/2 tank of non-ethanol and 1/2 tank of E-10.
