Thinking it would be nice to have the handlebars back and up just a bit, I bought some of the forged phatriser II's a while ago.
installed them and did not like it at all. Son tried them out and he did, but for me it was way too far back and I felt like I did not have great control of the bike and it just felt too weird, so I pulled them and put the stock risers back on. At first I was just going to re-sell them, but was thinking since they were now "used", I would only get $65-$75 for them, so took a chance and carried them down to my local machine shop and had them cut them down to 2 1/2" - just about the same height as the stock risers. I dropped them off at the machine shop about a month ago, but had forgotten about them, so swung by and picked them up yesterday and installed them last night. Is hard to tell just sitting on the bike how they will be, but , for me, it is a whole lot more comfortable just sitting there than the stock size was. It was around 1 am when I finished up and also was(and still is) spitting rain and I am sick with flu like symptoms so did not feel like taking a ride yet, so really won't know how I like them until I do go for a ride. Machine shop charged me $20.00 so I won't be out too much if I do not like them, but only a ride will tell. The bars do seem just a tad higher (good) but that could just be because they are back further, and I still have the pull back . I will probably bite the bullet and take a spin this afternoon to size them up.

I have the Phat II's on both bikes and they fit perfect for me. One thing that you may have to watch closer now is that since the risers and bars are lower and still have the pull back is that they may hit the tank. You did cut down some limitations of the rotation of the handle bars, at least in the down position. I have mine rotated down quite a bit but I like the lazy boy riding position.

Took her for a ride today.....MUCH better, for me. I forget the sizse before they cut them down, I am thinking the 5.5". Seems most people love them, but was real uncomfortable for me as far as feeling I had total control of the bike, especially when making tighter turns. It was enough that it also changed my sitting position, so I am sure that also affected my opinion and may have gotten better if I tried them out longer. Biggest thing for me tho was in the turns......I felt like I was laying down thru them.
the 2 1/2" is perfect - for me. I have some serious back and shoulder problems and I believe this will help out my shoulder a lot. It has changed my sitting position just a tad, maybe a 1/2 turn on the adjustment screw on my backrest. It is just a much more comfortable sitting position for me, yet it is still semi-close to an 'athletic stance" if that makes sense. Actually, is almost what it is like. Imagine you are playing the infield, we will say ss. With your hands out in front of you as they should be ,with that amount of bent elbow, if you keep your elbows bent the same, but raise them to between your chest and belly - that is pretty much what it is like. If I wasn't sitting, kicked back on my backrest, it does feel very similar to a comfortable, relaxed athletic position if that makes sense. Anyway - I was going to sell them, am really happy I had them cut down. I have actually got the bike to where I am very, very comfortable with it now. Comfortable enough that I believe this weekend I may just head on down to San Antonio to visit my kids. Is a little over 1,000 miles if I take the "quick" route, but will probably take my overnight stop in New Orleans and spend a day "touring" it.
