Default Stranger sitting on my bike?

Wife and I went to the mall last Friday night to buy boots for our west coast trip next month. We decided to have dinner while out and went to The Cheesecake Factory. The valet guy said I could park the bike at the curb. We ate out on the patio due to the nice weather and I could see the bike from our table, although it was a good distance away.

After awhile, I noticed a man and his child walking around the bike, looking and admiring it I assume. I had left the LED lights on. They were spending quite a bit of time around the bike. I turned my attention to dinner and then noticed that the man had placed the child on the seat....

I jumped up and went out there. As I approached the bike, I said Sir!! Sir!! Please don't put your child on my bike. He quickly grab up the child and started walking away without saying anything. I decided to add my own comments as he walked away and said how would he like me to be sitting in his car? Same thing! He said, your right. Sorry.

When I checked it over, the throttle lock had been engaged, the red kill switch had been placed in the on position, and the headlight switch was on dim. It's always on high beam. The right side mirror had been changed.

I love kids, have my own and grandchildren as well. Love them.

I hate when parents don't think about consequences. Bike could have fallen over for no reason. Child could have damaged an electronic item in some way. Point is, not his bike, owner not standing nearby, and parent was oblivious to etiquette for private property.

I've had many positive experiences with children and sitting on the bike while parents take a photo etc. it's always a good thing. But this guy had no idea where the owners were, and I guess out of site, out of mind...

Were you by chance parked anywhere near a WalMart? That would explain a lot about the dad's behavior.

You're much too nice. Vickey found a child starting to mount the Hiney with the mother watching and I was fearful that 'mom' might not live through it. People who don't have bikes have no concept of the damage to the bike or to a child if it should fall, or how easy it is to get a bike to fall.

Many people seem to think that it's entirely OK to sit on or mess with an unattended motorcycle.

One time, my machine had been moved rearward while parked at a pay lot, and the nitwit scratched the rear fender valance, when they moved it against the concrete retaining wall, directly behind the machine.

In another instance, someone saw fit to spit repeatedly all over My gel seat, just because the machine was there, and unattended.

Bro RV, I share Your concern.

while unpacking after checking into an uncrowded motel on an afternnon for an overnighter I opened the drapes to get daylight into the room. Directly outside my first floor unit my ride was parked and visible from my room. A short time after being there I looked out and noticed a young girl around 10 sitting on my bike while her parents took pictures of her sitting on the bike. Seemed harmless and so I watched and smiled. She dismounted when they were done with the help of her dad. I agree there is a respect for other peoples property we should be encouraging parents to teach their children and when parents assume its ok to do things like that.. harmless as it is, it sends the wrong message. Have been more than happy to allow youngins to sit upon my ride when I notice them close by looking and it does seem to give them a thrill...costs nothing but a few moments to bring a smile to their faces. I agree though...hate to see anyone, young or old, take it upon themselves to assume that its ok to just see what it feels like.

Had a short conversation with the valet staff while walking back to my table that the sentiment of sitting on a bike while the owner was not around is very similar to walking up to a persons convertible and jumping in the seat. I wonder how the owner of the convertible would react to finding someone in his/her car?

For me it's the teaching of child it's OK to violate private property is very troubling. I much prefer a parent who tells the child "not to touch" someone's property

I have tracked people down before to ask if they minded if I sat on their bike...not too often mind you, but no one ever had a problem with it. However I would never assume it's OK. I don't even touch one finger on other people's bikes if they're not around to approve. It's just a baaaad idea.

Happens to me all the time. Its not kids but fully grown men who sit on the bike. Women pose for pics while leaning on the bike.

So the first thing i did was to buy me a security system. So now it buzzes and alerts me if someone comes close to my bike.

Cant use this all the time though. The bikes a frigin disneyland for stray cats. So it keeps buzzing when cats come close.Seen cats fight for who can sit on my bike and make a home. I dont mind but them frigin cats pee on my bike to mark terrority. When its my time to use the bike, the bike stinks. Bummer
