okay, I am curious......what do you do to "put a bike away" that it can no longer be ridden ? Now on my boat, you do have to drain all of the water out so the block or drive doesn't crack.....but I still use it in the winter and just insure I drain the water when I get home.
I really am not being ironic here - but a bike - once you do the maintenance things, I don;t see what would keep me from just jumping on it, turning the key and going if it was a nice day out ?
I have actually just put a heater in the garage where I keep the boat and bike so now I won;t even have to drain the water out of the boat immediately when I get home. As long as I have my antifreeze in the bike, I can't see how the cold affects it ?
If it would be sitting for a spell (does not happen here), I would keep the tank full and put stabilizer in the gas. When it starts to get cold here, I just always add some seafoam to the tank every time I fill it and then I don;t have to worry if it ends up sitting for a couple of weeks......but if I did ride it, all you would do is add some more stabilizer and fill the tank back up.....
I guess I just can't see what would keep one parked and too much of a hassle to "unpark"

For me I've put it away for the season mostly due to road conditions. We might have a nice day but putting the bike down on a sanded curve or patch of black ice in the shade is dangerous. Sure, starting the bike and riding off isn't much of a problem on a nice day but that's not the issue. Just because the weather or temperature is nice enough doesn't mean the roads are safe for a bike. I add fuel stabilizer, fill the tank, over inflate the tires, plug the battery tender in and call it a season. Does the ground freeze where you ride?

+1 on this.

I took mine out last year on a real nice day with the "Chinook" winds blowing. I thought all would be well for a nice ride in the middle of winter. The cross winds got so strong I was forced into the oncoming lane while turning from going west to south!
Don't think I'll be doing that again.

Yup, left the ignition on while talking to george in the Petro Can parking lot just south of my house. Doesn't take long to run down the battery. First time for me to be the biatch on the back of any bike in the last 30+ years. First time ever to boost a MC, thanks to my neighbor John (ST1300) used his portable booster to get the Vol going.
Returned home put portable booster in the saddlebag, then started our ride to the escarpment (Rattlesnake Point area). All in all, still was smiling at the end of the ride.
Thanks George.
Note to self buy a portable booster when on sale at CTC or Princess Auto

oh, okay.....now that makes sense. Is a good thing about living in Tn - you don;t really get surprised like that too often. Ice, and particularly black ice does scare me.....also, another thing I worry about is in the fall when the leaves come off the trees and the leaves are wet........especially going around a corner and there is a bunch of wet leaves all in the road.........
As for winter riding....weather has been pretty wacky lately, but in the past it is pretty much year round riding. Usually we may have a few weeks of cold, but then it will warm up for a few days, a week etc......many, many a 40+_ degree days here in the winter.

Was just when I read about storing the bike, I was picturing the bike being shrink wrapped or something

LOL, no I don't go that far but good point...the leaves in the fall can certainly be a hazard. That and those wide white painted crosswalk markings when wet.

I put mine away yesterday too... but it was so nice that I took it out for an hour first.

I hate putting it away for the winter, but it's fun to change the oil and stuff too.

I pulled the bike out yesterday and took her for a quick rip to Canadian Tire
