Default shovelhead motor in a volusia?

Wondering if anybody has researched or attempted, or successfully swapped in a shovel head motor and belt drive into a volusia/C50. I'm interested in the motor mainly because of the ability to soup it. No, I don't want to just buy a bigger bike, where is the fun in that? Im into hot rodding and fixen what ain't broke.

Never been done that I know of...... WAY to many issues with the transmission being the major one I can think of, no such thing as a shaft dive Harley

Not true!!! Harley experimented with shaft drives for WWII 1000 units were built before the idea was abandoned.

I think you would need a different swingarm at the least...but with a grinder and a welder anything is possible.

You say to don't want to fix things that are not broken so I assume you just want to bolt this old harley engine onto a modern Suzuki driveline somehow? Never heard of it done and yeah, that's a lot of issues to overcome without breaking down something.

Actually, I DO want to fix what aint broke. And Im not planning on using the factory drive line at all, rather, I would be replacing it with a belt drive. I have seen chain driven rear wheel on a honda something or other, with a drum brake set up that looked the same as ours. my plan would involve converting said wheel to belt, and so forth.

If you throw enough time and money at any project, you can get 'er done.

But at the end of the day, what do you have ?

I think swingarm and belt drive would be the least of you problems.

The frame itself would require major rework to accept that engine.

Seems like a shovelhead is abit taller than our engine, is it going to fit under the backbone ?

Seems like the engine/tranny is abit longer than ours, are ya gonna be able to shoehorn it in there and what modification is going to be needed for engine mounts ?

Would require a custom wire harness, complete. This would be a nightmare.

C50 uses an electric fuel pump. What kind of fuel delivery does the shovelhead require?

The frame does cause me some concern. No real way to tell what modifications are needed without actually trying to fit the engine and transmission in the frame. I'm sure there will be som cutting and welding involved, that's why I was hoping somebody out there had done something similar, to get some pointers. The fuel delivery would be via carb, electric or mechanical fuel pump would be of little concern.

I really doubt someone has tried this but measurements, very accurate measurements, would be prudent prior to the start of this project. If you have the motor it may be better fit to a different frame. Just my thoughts!

What kind of performance improvement over the factory engine are you going to get out of the shovelhead?
