How would you feel when ordering something and after receiving the item and find out somehow that it had been installed and then returned by a previous buyer? Am sure that you would not be pleased. That is one of the reason i will avoid anything in a store that has been opened and then resealed. I would either keep the item or sell it as used. It is the right thing to do.

I'm a bit more of a realist when it comes to new or used items. If there's no wear or tear, still in new condition, it doesn't bother me if the item was a return or not. No difference in the two in my eyes. Slight wear/tear is different. The straps still have the creases in them from shipping, the salt pack things still inside, and haven't been opened/closed anymore by me than a set would be sitting in a store. Not saying it's right (queue the subject of the thread), but the item itself is still in new condition. It's just the morals that get me. Sometimes doing the "right" thing comes back to bite you in the *** in the long run. I didn't think about ebay, and selling with a reserve of $80 or something. Just looking for an easy way out i guess.

On a side note - When I bought the bike, i did the right thing with the paperwork. The guy asked me what i wanted him to put on the title for purchase price, and me being an honest person told him to put the correct amount. That "right thing" cost me an extra $200, and even the lady at the DMV told me I did a stupid thing LOL I sure didn't feel any better paying $200 bucks in taxes even though it was the honest thing to do, and in reality it wouldn't have hurt anyone doing it the wrong way...

I totally understand the predicament, what may change things is that I born in a country in which that happened all the time, everyone was trying to over-smart the other person to take advantage and few decades from that meant that there are non returns in merchandise, nobody would send a payment expecting to receive a product later, etc etc... People ask me what would happen once the dictatorial government gets down in my home-country, and I simply explain that as long as the people (and their broken morals) are there, it will be the same crap.
In this country we are blessed most people have morals and is our responsibility to keep it like that...

Sell them privately then buy what you want. You've used them, and should not return them. People doing this kind of thing are one of the reasons why many companies have very strict return/exchange policies. Don't try to rationalize it because Dennis Kirk is a large vendor.

I prefer Dennis Kirk BECAUSE of their return policy, return it for ANY REASON.

That said, the things I have returned were truely unused, I sent them back in the original package with the Dennis Kirk return shipping lable.

With the exception of one item, HardKrome exhaust.

Those I did mount on the bike and fired it up, they sounded like crap, I hated 'em. I had 'em on the bike all of about 15 minutes, I let 'em cool off then I pulled 'em off and sent them back.

Any item that cannot be repackaged and sold as new, goes to Dennis Kirk outlet store.

90 day return policy, what do they think, you wait 3 months before you open the box ?

The bigger problem is that you do not have the original shipping container or the return shipping authorization. I think I'd offer 'em here on swap meet.

I spoke with them on the phone, they'll take the return just fine long as they're still in new condition. I pay return shipping, no biggie. Once i get a new set of bags in, i'll reuse that box for the return. The bags themselves are very nice. They're sturdy, well made, and have tons of room. I just prefer something a bit smaller, and more curved. If for any reason i run into problems with the return to DK, i'll post here and ebay to sell. I even contemplated on keeping them for next year when me and wife decide to take a weekend trip and need a bit more space, but I'd rather just offset the cost of a new set of bags instead.

I'll just chime in to reiterate that cheap bags are cheap bags. In the long run, a couple sets of cheap bags cost more than spending money for good ones up front.
(From a been there done that guy)
