Has anyone here done it?
I've checked out the RIV website and it all seems fairly straightforward. Looks like a person just needs a recall clearance letter from Suzuki USA (or whoever), fill out their paperwork, pay the RIV fee, and informs border services that you're coming 3 days in advance. Once in Canada, get it inspected and signed off at a licenced inspection shop, and you're good to go. I was always told if it looks too good to be true, it probably is, so I want to know what I'm missing, pitfalls, other hidden fees, etc. a guy can run into bringing a used bike back across the border. I'm not worried about warrantee because the bike I'm looking at is 5 years old, I just don't want any nasty surprises. thanks in advance for any pointers.

I am told its an import motor vehicle form. Cost is $199 to import it to Canada paid when you licence it.
They charge only 5% tax on the import at the border, the rest of the 13% is paid when you register the vehicle. I imported a trailer- that's a little easier, I claimed it was a kit and will NOT be licenced for the road. I was then charged the 13% tax and sent on my way. At the licence place- I simply told them it was a home built (took off the US VIN plate) and paid my $35 for the plate and I was out of there in 5 mins- no muss no fuss. Forget about importing a small trailer like an HF unit or something with a removeable Vin plate- cost is high- buy a kit and bring it back as parts.
