My wife had a Shark on her Vulcan before she wrecked it, with the bigger speakers. This time she wanted the smaller ones, so she got a set with bluetooth and the amps built right in, so the only wire to run was to the battery for power. Problem is, they don't put out much, especially with a full helmet on, she has a hard time hearing them. It was a cheap setup, like 80 bucks. All along I was telling her to get this other setup they had, more power, bigger speakers, but she didn't like the looks of them. So now you live with your choice of form over function!

I have the Shark 250 and the performance is ok for an outdoor lotsa vibration set up. You have to take into consideration YOUR ON A MOTORCYCLE the sound is gonna wash out and the bike vibration is going to harmonize at some point with the speakers and you will change the sound. Any bass sound will wash away with the wind. I am ok with the sound of my shark system but I only have a hundred bux in it. If I wanted a high dollar system then I would expect a high dollar sound.

The Pyle 600W system was on my C90 when I bought it this year. (Pyle - PLMCA61 - 600 Watts Motorcycle/ATV/Snowmobile Mount Amplifier w/Dual handle-bar Mount Aluminum Die -Cast Weatherproof Speakers w/MP3/Ipod Input and USB Charger) I really don't use it but when I have, it sounds really good and it has impressed several friends who like stereos on their bikes.

Check local laws though - up here in Massachusetts it's Illegal to ride with head phones. I know it is in some other states as well.

I really enjoy my tunes, I have a nice system in my Miata with a sub in the trunk, etc. and it sounds great even at highway speeds with the top down. I just can't bring myself to put a stereo on the bike as it is my escape from phones, TV, etc. I just like to hear the v-twin and take in the scenery...

I also enjoy listening to the scenery while riding. I also enjoy music while riding. I use the Scala system and it will allow me to tune in a local FM station or if that's not available , I can plug in the XM to the helmet and listen to live XM. My 2 up partner enjoys plugging in her iPod to listen as well. With the Scala, we listen separately or pair up the tunes. Makes our ride a little better.

My bike came with the Sound of Crap (chrome) speakers by Kuryakyn... I really tried to like the speakers, they are loud but really anything over 80km/h and they are pretty useless... And come on, $400 for a pair of them?
Thinking of selling them in the spring.... |
