Got to love honest kids…
Earlier this week, I needed to have my son put his car in our barn so I could do some electrical work on it. Since my bike was already parked in there, I told him to move it around to the garage. I made it a point to say “No joyrides” (He’s 16 and although he rides well, he does not have his motorcycle endorsement). I get home from work, his car is in the barn and my bike is in the garage. I ask if he had any trouble moving the bike. From his expression, I could tell he had taken it for a ride. I asked if he took it out on the street. He nodded, “Yes, up to Grandpa’s a few times” (about a ½ mile round trip). I reminded him that I had said “no joyrides”. He said, although riding my bike was fun, he made sure there was no “joy” involved.

Fix a kids car and you will do it for a lifetime. Teach the kid how to fix his own car and he will put up with the problems until he has time to fix them himself.

All part of the master plan. As much as he dislikes mechanics, I make sure he's out there with me getting dirty. This weekend, he's going to install a remote start. I'll be there to offer assistance, but he'll be doing the work.

If he gives you any problems just start the car and tell him to pull a spark plug wire. Then he'll never forget to not do that again.

When I was 12 I remember riding my friends Honda 350 scrambler at 80 mph. Very rural area. No license.
When I was 16 I remember riding my Dads boss's Honda 750 wide open. I think I was close to 100 mph. Licensed. LOL It was just a joy ride.
