Default Michelin Commander II

Oh no! Not another tire thread!

Actually, I'm just looking for some opinions/input on Michelin bike tires in general.
Always hear about Kenda, Metz, Pirelli etc. around here but never much about Michelin.

They just introduced the Commander II and I'm sorta liking what I'm seeing -- wet weather traction enhancements, kevlar reinforcement, claims they will double the life/mileage of their competition, etc etc. Nice looking tire, too. Combine all that with decent pricing and the fact they're available to fit the C50 and I'm thinkin' I should put the Michelins on this spring instead of Pirellis or Metz.

Am I wrong to be thinking that?

not sure about bike tires, but on a car, they outlast 2 to 1-personal experience, good luck-expensive on cars

Tread pattern is very similar to my favorite...Avon Venom's (which don't fit the C50). My OEM Michelin car tires had great life (80k), but wet weather traction wasn't great. If their claims of improved traction in wet & cool conditions are true, seems like they're worth trying.

Dealerships might recommend that -- why sell just one tire when you can sell two, right? -- but it's not necessary. Depends on the age & wear of the tires in question.

I change both at the same time because I'm a bit goofy about tires and because I like them to match. Had a set of new Dunlops put on not too long ago in an emergency-replacement situation and rear is fine but the front is shot. Could probably get another season out of the rear but I wasn't real crazy about those tires from the git-go, so I'm replacing both.

To each his/her own when it comes to that.

I burned up a set of Michelin Anakees on my bike. They were stick as heck on wet pavement.

The Grouch's scooter came with Michelin Pilot SC's on the wheels. They did grip very well, but were more than half used in only 4k miles. I'll have to reserve judgement about the new Commander 2's. Then again, they are REALLY going to have to prove to last twice as long and ride just as well to pry me away from Metzler....

Five hundred bucks. Sound fair?

Tell you what, if it's still in as good a shape as I think it is (I haven't actually measured the tread or anything) and the guys at the shop let me take it (which they should), it's yours if you want it.

Just pay the shipping costs.
