OK, you literally got a lol. That doesn't happen much. Nice work.

I see the mentality has not changed.

Quote:
I had a coversation with my neighbor recently. It went something like this:
Him: "You're running a car tire, aren't you?"
Me: "Yep."
Him: "I've read about that somewhere. It's controversial."
Me: "Not for those of us that are doing it. No controversy at all."
Him: "Well, it can't handle."
Me: "It does."
Him: "It's not safe."
Me: "It is for me."
Him: "It's not tested."
Me: "I've tested it all the way to Alaska and back. A bike tire couldn't have taken the abuse."
Him: "Well, I know it's just not safe. It can't work."
He did make it to Alaska and back on a car tire, the same car tire, and he didn't pack no stinking spare.

Of course he'll never compare to the "Mystery" of the VR and his Darth Vader costume.

I made it to Alaska for about 200 dollars, from north Carolina. I swam in prudhoe bay. My metzelers held up. I didn't write a book.

So just wondering if you saved any of that sauce that you say is so good for the goose?

The only excuse I can think of for ridicule like that is maybe you feel threatened by an enthusiast that has more riding miles than you. After all, he's living the dream, riding motorcycles and authoring novels.

Or is it because the gent is not here to defend himself that he becomes fair game?

What a fine example you set.

Wow.

Seems there is only one person left getting their feathers ruffled by this.

Just saying.

Bill......I wouldn't put a c/t on a Beemer either. The type of riding you do isn't conducive to that tire. I wouldn't put one on any bike that is made for off-roading or extreme lean angles.

For my Nomad and type of riding I did it worked for me.

Only thing stopping me from doing it is all the fiddling around to find the sweet spot on the contact patch. I've looked into it quite a bit in the data bases but I just don't want to do all the experimentation.

This is always a hot topic. I haven't heard from anyone who's done all the work & research that they've had issues.

Had a C/T on my VTX1300 for the last 2 months I had it before I sold it. Took 2 to 3 days to get use to it. Comes out of turn alot faster. More counter steering on turns. Great on the interstate. Stops alot better than a M/C tire and it's alot different in the rain.

I bought an extra rim for the GW, this spring going to get it powedered coated and install run flat C/T.

Bill - I mounted the Dunlop DP5000 on my Nomad this past Summer (195/60/16). It was the better of the two tire options for the 1600 Nomad IMHO. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

I scrape the floorboards on both sides of the bike every chance I get. I run the tire at 34psi, and it performs great.

Regardless of public opinion, I am really tickled with the ride and performance of the CT.

My hubby has a '06 Nomad 1600, he has a 205/60-16 Goodyear car tire on the back and loves it. We're in AZ too.

Bill.......speaking from experience, I think you'll be happy with the c/t on your Classic. I may be wrong but I would think the roads in AZ are somewhat similar to those here in FL.

Too bad you're so far away.....I have a Dunlop SP5000 195/60-16 with about a thousand miles on it just sitting in my garage. I have no idea how to wrap it for shipping or else I'd be happy to give it to you.
That's only up to page 8, I could go on, but you get the point.

I'm an antagonist and can take anything thrown my way by anyone, and I don't go running and whining to the staff when I can't.

I just think it's sad when a moderator has to ridicule and mock and idea that so many members here are interested in, and actually participate in.

I posted earlier that there are darkside tire riders that are very good particepants of this site. They have avoided this thread for the very mockery that is being displayed here.

I have NEVER been in favor of locking threads, we are all big boys (ok, obviously not all of us, whiners excluded), but when members in good standing have to avoid a certain thread for fear of being mocked for having ideas different than a handful of self appointed "experts", then locking the thread may be appropiate. Sad, but appropiate.
