It seems more and more VR members are buying BMW motorcycles...this thread is our place to talk, brag and post BMW beauty shots of our bikes!

So...lets see your Beemer!

I'll start. My 2007 R1200GS, today, on my way to work.
You can see more shots and mods at www.ednelson.us/blog

Your bikes are all ugly. When I get home, I'll post pictures of a nice bike.

Can you smell what the rock is cookin?

Here's pictures from when I was riding the rock. Now it feels kinda weird, like "here's pictures of me with your girlfriend." Boy I used to love riding that bike. It just feels weird...

Anyway, Note the middle picture, this was moments before racing an SR-71 down the black ops runway at Warner-Robbins. I won by a nose.

A serious question for BMW owners, and others, ..... are mid control foot pegs comfortable for the looong rides??? Say 300 to 400 mile slab rides. Does it matter what your body type is? At 6' 3.5", I am more of a long body with normal in-seam length type. But I have really old knee injuries ... ie ... 44 year old torn meniscus and arthritis.

I like the forward floor boards and the foot pegs on the engine guards ... they help me stretch out my knees and they also help relieve the pressure on my low back on long rides.

I have not taken a mid control bike for a ride since the mid 70's and I have the notion that a mid control bike would be uncomfortable.

Your opinions please.

Tom, one of the things I miss about the Wing is the mid control peg position. I now find myself positioning my feet at the back edge of the floorboards when I ride my RG. Keep in mind that you could buy aftermarket highway pegs to stretch out your knees. I had them on my Wing, and I know for the GS they sell pegs that can attach on the valve covers or on the engine guards.

Store

Hope this helps buddy. BTW, there are some really nice beemers posted on this thread. :shades:

i'm only 5'8" with a 32" inseam.

i am comfortable riding 12+ hours a day.

on a cruiser, i find myself squirming around and moving my foot position because it gets tiresome in the same position.

bmw dealers offer test rides on all of their bikes, best thing you could do is take one for an extended test ride. or you could always rent one for a couple days.

you can also purchase pegs that would be in a similar position to hughway bars.

Ya the pegs get attached to the cylinders on boxer engines.
I Don't find my RT position uncomfortable.
I have bought set backs for my handles
It just the pegs in my arches that get to me after about 200 miles.
I could get boards if I wanna shell out $375

Her's my hideously ugly R1200GS, backdropped by other hideous Ugly Machines. Please make it stop

I bought my first airhead when I was 18. it was hideously ugly

Here's my seriously ugly airhead sidecar rig.

The bottoms are even uglier. This is taken in the Yukon, all the bikes were ugly BMWs.

Here's my hideous Paris Dakar above the Arctic Circle. I made it to bike night in Deadhorse, apparently my lack of chrome Gimcracks went unnoticed.

Tom, I do want to stretch out my legs a bit at times... and the bike is so high I just kick it forward for a few seconds, and I can stand upright like riding my dirt-bikes...and really stretch everything.

I must say though the slight forward position puts me in such a "balancing act" position that it really is so much more comfortable than I ever imagined. Back pain and neck pain, gone. I had TERRIBLE neck pain on my C50 (and kept trying higher and higher risers, etc..) and I was REALLY afraid I was going to HATE the seating position with my neck on the R12T.. but it is now almost totally gone.. just amazing comfort. The Germans are ergonomic (engineering) geniuses...

The didn't just help with our space program.. they made it. (Werner Von Braun, etc..) and look at the car engineering.. they pushed the boundaries of technology (BMW, Mercedes, along with the Japanese, to be fair) and forced the America car industry to jump forward... No one ever said they were dopes. They know what they're doing....

I am still wondering at what rider height these sport tourers become less comfortable. With boots on, I'm 6 1/2 feet... I guess I would have to rent one for a weekend and truly see for myself... I already know the ride itself can't be beat!

You and I have legs that are 6" too long. :biglaugh:

I bet it'll only take 100 miles? I was "locked" in less than 160 km.....This happened to me twice, once on a BMW K series and once on a Motto Guzzi sport tour.

btw, they're awesome machines to ride but I could never own. :crying:
