Man, its nice to say this,

I took a ride out to my dealer on Saturday, December 15

It was time for the holiday party. I got to take a Ural Retro for a spin. It was a lot of fun. There were cookies and bikes and friends and free lunch. Then I rode a hundred more miles. Wow, Saturday Dec 15th.

Ken...
OUCH! Man, I'm telling you doing the valves from start to finish.. (taking your time, and this is including taking off and putting back on all the tupperware) is 2 hours MAX. I'll bet you I could do it in 45 minutes....

If you have the inclination and (garage space, ,etc..) want to do it yourself.. Let me know.. I'll steer you as to what to get. First being JVB Productions DVD on the Camhead..

Rub it in E... Just raw and ugly here now

Without the tupperware, its 15 minutes

Just sayin

In all honesty, though, every bit of the self-maintenance saves big dollars, at the same time its nice to have someone do it for you. I only permit a BMW certified master technician touch my bike and the nearest one for me is 100 miles away. I am going to have him bleed my brakes this spring, but pretty much I self maintain.

Now my Ural, its giving me fits

Aside from oil changes, I am out of my element when it comes to maintenance. I'm a bean counter that sits behind a desk all day...I'd rather let the pros do it and have it done right.

Gotcha Ken.. I think most bike owners (especially BMW owners) feel the same way. In my club (New Sweden BMW Riders, I'm VP this year, BTW) I could only find a few that do their own wrenching... We do have Don Eilenberger (BMW MOA ambassador) in our club and he really knows his stuff (he's also very active on BMWST forum and ADV Rider) as well as our President who was the chief mechanic instructor for all of Suzuki NA.)

My take on it, I'd rather do it myself and really KNOW it was done right. I had a 35 year BMW Certified Master Mechanic work on my bike, he put on a wrong gasket and becasue of this I had oil leaking out of my oil filler plug (went all over my bike, tire, pants.. Close to a quart low when I got off my bike after riding it and not knowing this!!!...as well as screws missing in the tupperware when it came back... Needless to say, I was pissed and said.. ''Never again.''

I'm a chiropractor working in an MD Orthopedic Surgeons practice.. I wasn't trained as a mechanic. Anyway.. My $2 cents...

Guess we all knew what we were in for when we got our Beemers, we have been warned. I'm with Ken on this one; I do oil changes and some lubrication, but that's where it ends for me, too. The cruisers were all easy to work on, but ABS brakes, servos, Hall sensors, all that stuff gives me the creeps LOL

Default It Sucks!

Yeah, it really does suck!

Had to go to the BMW shop today - new speedo cable on my 1150GS. The old one would chatter at me every once in a while.

Left A&S BMW in Roseville and went I80E to Auburn where I rode this route today - Google map here.

Nice and pleasant day - sunny and only in the high 50's in the shade - but it's daggone warm in the sun.

I had to stop about 1/2 way through this ride and strip both liners out of my jacket. Yeah, the end of January and I needed the liners out!

But what really sucked - I knew you'd wonder - was that I did not have my lighter weight winter gloves with me and I had to put the heavy and thick winter gloves back on and my hands were all sweaty.

Uhhhh.... Let me say... YOU SUCK!!

Man, Georgetown Road and Mosquito Road look like a blast? Are they as good as they look on the map?

BTW, You have a great dealer. (A&S) I know I've bought a few things from them on-line.
