Beautiful day in St. Louis.

Well it got real warm here today, sun was shining all day for the first time in a long time. It started with the ice storms we had, lots of gray days and lots of fog for that last couple of weeks.

Got out today and rode from around 9:30 in the morning until just before dark. Stayed off any highways, and kept it to around town. Had a bit of a mishap, in that my chrome radiator grill came off some unknown reason, I did check everything on the bike when I got it, went through and tightened everything up. I checked that when I changed the oil. Am going to take a look at that today and see why it came off. My riding buddy behind me disappeared so I waited for a bit at a stop sign in a residential area, and when he didn't show up I went back and there he sat holding my grill and waiting on me. It was a pretty curvy section of streets, so it didn't take long to lose him in my mirrors. Other than some scratches on the grill, the day was perfect. So glad he was behind me, and saw it, also really glad we were in a 20 mph zone and it didn't fly into anyone or anything.

We both got to know our new bikes, (he just got his too) a 95 Yamaha V twin. 1100. Virago. only 8000 miles on it.

Got close to 70 here and put about 150 miles on her. Stopped and got lunch along the way. I also discovered that if I pull the choke out a bit, it runs perfect (pipes put on the bike without being jetted). It gives it just enough additional fuel to run without any missing.

Had a ball, hope you all got some riding in too.

sorry to hear about the grill coming loose but guess it could have been worse...nothing better than a nice day in January to fire up the ride and feed the need. Lets keep our fingers crossed more days like these will come early.

Whats the big hurry...slow down and enjoy the ride!

Well went out and looked at the radiator attachment point for the chrome cover. Saw the large hole and realized that the grommet is missing. The screw and nut are still in the cover, along with a small washer....small enough to go through the grommet hole. And that is why the radiator cover came off. I did notice and realized that the two oval rubber grommets were missing at the top two tabs on the cover, but thought that as long as it was firmly attached at the bottom it would be fine less a possible rattle. I am finding grommets and washers missing all over this bike. It always amazes me that people take things apart, no matter if it be a shop or private, and put things back together without doing it right. I just don't understand how you can take something apart and have a bunch of parts left over or how you can misplace that many parts as in this case with the radiator cover all three rubber grommets and the proper size washers to squeeze the grommet and keep everything together and attached properly.

My air cleaner cover is also missing one washer and both rubber cushions. I am going to get everything I find missing and put it back right. Got a cart going at a parts store already. They build them like this because of the vibration on a bike, how anyone could think that you don't need to put these kinds of parts back is beyond me!

Glad you had a nice time. Sad that you are farther north than me and had such warmer weather.

Plan for tomorrow and live for today.
