I didn't start with a 1300CC bike because I was just getting back into riding after a 35 year hiatus and my previous bike was a 450. I was concerned about starting with a larger size, but now feel confident I can handle it OK.
As an owner of a big bike now, I understand what you are saying. Do you muscle your car/truck around when in a parking lot or going slow? Probably not. You probably drive it. It becomes the same with a big bike; guide the bike where it needs to go with good throttle and brake control and proper turning. Of course, you may have to be mindful of where you park if you have to push on gravel or some kind of incline. But, my bike resolves this with a very handy Reverse gear - - that I have used twice so far.

Plan for tomorrow and live for today.

Ran a C50T for close to 5 years, the last 4 with a DJ drive. Would do 100 indicated 2up, tapped out. Comfortable to 75 constant on the slab. Getting tossed around by semis was more bothersome than the lack of power. Traded up to an Indian Chief Vintage a few years back. Power in spades, could cruise at 100 all day if wanted, but the bigger benefits on the slab are provided by the 850 lbs and 29 degrees of rake. Rock solid. One handed cruising, passing trucks at speed on the cruise control, it's just that solid - Dan
