Default Show Chrome heated grips install?

I received the Show Chrome model 17-955C heated grips for Christmas.

They are the model spec'd out for the bike, but are about an inch longer than the stock grips with the handlebar balancers removed and are "closed-end" (they have a thin rubber wall on the end with what looks like a hole to put the balancer screw back through).

Am thinking they intend for you to retire the balancers, but then what is the hole for?

Considered cutting the thin rubber wall out of the end of them, getting a longer balancer screw and reattaching balancers with new grips.

Has anyone installed these and have any tips?

Thanks!

Here is a link to a vid with install. I will assume the hole is there to allow you to push them on the bars and release air as doing so. I don't think the weight ends are to be back on, not saying you can't try it. Is there a spacer inside the grip that can be cut since they are longer then stock grips? If you don't know already DON'T unscrew the weighted ends totally, nut will fall inside bar. Unscrew it slowly and try to get them off, keep going slowly until they come off.

OK, I just noticed you are in Carol Stream, if you need a hand let me know I'm in Bloomingdale and work in Carol Stream.

Thanks for the reply! Very cool, you're the first "local" I've met through the forum Think you're right about the weights/ hole. The 5-1/2" length of the new grips puts them right in-between the length of the stocks with and without the balancers. Looks from the video like you're just supposed to slide them on and be done, I'm probably over-complicating it.

Will let you know how it goes!

I put "Oxford" heated grips on my Volusia back in September. I'll try and post a pic of the package.

Mine came too long also. Although, from the photo you can see the extra length was from an imitation bar end. In the instructions it stated you can cut off the excess - which was no small feat by the way.

Not sure if the show chromes have the same deal going on with them or not.
Good luck

In the end, I'm using heated grips and my bar ends - which are throttlemeisters.

Just a thought. Could they intend to put them on over the wieghts?

Don't have a lot of use for heated grips here in SA

The grips look like they go for bikes without bar weights, I would cut the outer portion and keep the weights on. I dont think the the heating elements run all the way to the end.
