Agreed, definitely chop off the extra pipe. Gonna have to make this a weekend project soon. I will report back with a sound clip. Probably will be a week or two before I can get to it.

Id-man... you mentioned before, that to take out the cyclops plate to get a heavy duty extension for the 3 inch hole saw. I have been looking for one, but cant find anything that will work with the arbor for 3/8 drive. Can I beat it with a pipe like I did with the mickey plate? Or does someone know where I can find the proper extension. I prefer to cut it out, since by beating the mickey plate it didn't leave a smooth surface from where the welds broke free. I would imagine that i would have to smooth it out to fit in the glasspacks? !

Hey Dannyrider13, I can tell you that I used a Milwaukee 7/16" Quik-Lok Extension in a very beefy 1/2" drill. I would not recommend going out and buying such a beast unless you can justify the roughly $25 price tag by using it on other projects (I was lucky enough to have one available to borrow). I am not sure if it would fit in a 3/8" chuck. I am also not sure if bashing out the cyclops plate is a good idea for the same reason you state...I started out by beating my Mickey plate with a pipe too and things were getting pretty ugly inside that pipe, ripping the perforated liner. So I quit and got the right tool. Once I had the good setup I was able to ream out the bore with the hole saw and clean everything up, trimming away the uglies. Reaching in to remove the cyclops was a cinch...hole saw is definitely the way to go - or the new method of cutting away the outer lip and pulling the guts out as one piece. Whatever you decide to do, take pics and share.

I'm loving the idea of this Mod but I'm really not into big noise, but I love the bass that you got. I've made a few glasspack mufflers myself from stainless tube and perf sheet for go carts. They are really easy. I was thinking of rolling a 12" long tube from perf sheet the same diameter as the header pipe instead of 2". Weld some donuts each end. wrap them in glass insulation materiel and put them in.

I took the whole cat plate out with a hole saw. I can't remember now if the heavy-duty extension I used made it in one piece or if I added multiples together. Sorry I didn't actually measure how deep the cat is in there. What I can clearly (and painfully) remember is that my first attempts, trying to string together a couple light weight POS extensions fought me every step of the way - kept slipping in the drill's chuck AND losing grip on the hole saw - an utterly frustrating waste of time. I had the same sad luck trying to bash out the parts with a pipe - was just making a mess, ripping up the insides of my pipes. Highly recommend getting the heavy-duty extension(s) and a nice sharp bimetal hole saw and a strong drill motor with some good torque to it. Doing this project with the right tools is simple and easy.

Oh, and about loudness...
I think making up your own glasspacks is valiant. I wouldn't try it but only because I am totally satisfied with both the tone and volume achieved with the pre-made 12" ones I used. Volume is already about 1/2 to 1/3 of the gutted decibels. I was a little shocked at first how much it hushed the loudness, but equally and immediately as pleased with how it brought out the rumble. I guess if you're making your own you can theoretically craft your own perfect balance of volume and rumble based on length and how many wraps of glass. Sounds like a cool project...let us know how it goes.
