Default Custom 1 piece Seat

So here is my progress tread for my 100% custom 1 piece seat.
Started by removing the seat, wrapping the bike in plastic, taping off the pan area with 4 layers of blue masking tape, coated the tape with paste wax.

Laid down 1 layer of fiberglass roving, 2 layers of fiberglass matting thicker in the "flex and seat areas" and capped it off with a final layer of roving.

The bottom of the pan has 1/8 inch of super high density foam, the top I laid down 2 layers of high density gel foam (from an exercise mat, about a inch thick) then a layer of high density cushion foam. Drilled the hole for the rear bolt and riveted a retaining tab for under the tank support.
From here, I handed the seat over to a good friend of mine that does upholstery, he decided that the top layer of foam I used was not going to cut it in the long run, so in the interest of durability he swapped out my white foam with some green foam cored white closed cell foam.

It's going to get adjusted in a few areas to better fit the bike, just a few areas getting wider in the pocket and where it meets the tanks, then it gets wrapped in flat black textured vinyl and i'll post more photos here when I get it back!

Definitely liking the idea and look so far. Keep updating, and if you don't mind....How much?

60 bucks for fiberglass, resin, plastic drop "cloth", mixing cups, tape and brushes. Spent 20 on the foam that isn't getting used now. Exercise mat was like 10 bucks. Not sure on the cost of my buddies work, but he assured me it would be less than 100. So even at the top end it'll be 190 bucks max. Could have been 170 if I had known that the foam wasn't going to get used. I'm sure I could have found the fiberglass and resin cheaper if I looked around, went to the big orange home store for it.

Just an update too, it sits lower than it looks, it's not bolted down in the last photo so it looks a little "off" the foam actually follows the struts when it's pushed down into place.

You'll be thanking your buddy on the foam decision!

Looking forward to seeing the finished product......
